2015 was the realest year Iâve had, man.
This was my first real âadultâ year, meaning the first year thatâs happened since I graduated college. And you wanna know something? Shit was wild. Real wild. Lemme give you a recap.
- Pops got hospitalized for the same issue he had when I was in middle school. Only now Iâm older and realized how serious of an issue this was this second time around. Yâall ever felt like you can legitimately lose a parent forever from a health issue? And the only thing you have control over is thinking of how many ways to keep yourself busy to keep your mind off it? I donât wish that upon anyone. Ever.
- The girl I was with for the past five years and I broke up. Dude, five years is a really long time to be invested with someone, and this was definitely the first serious relationship of mine. And to have two years of it being long distance while I was attending college made the relationship seem even longer. Itâs a trip to think about everything weâve went through together, only to have it end and realize how young I still am and have much more to learn and experience. This whole relationship thang be crazy son.
- The motherfuckinâ Golden State Warriors bruh. I still donât think it fully marinated yet. WE ACTUALLY WON A RING. AND WE HAVE A MVP. Like the Warriors arguably have the best player in the NBA right now. And you know what, we deserve it. Year after year was just disappointment after disappointment, but loyalty definitely pays off. And anyone who knows me knows I been about the Dubs since day one. And look at us now man. Shit is really poetic when I think about it. Can you imagine my pops was still sick and I was going through a break up all while this was happening? Imagine that rollercoaster of emotions. Iâm surprised I was tall enough for that kind of ride.
- I got laid off from my first job out of college. Seriously? At 23? You can get laid off when youâre that young? Prior to this, I thought the only type of people that got laid off were bald white dudes in their 40s and 50s. The company I worked for was a start up, and we got bought out by eBay. They didnât see a need for over 90% of us and said peace out.
- I had a few live shows over Summer, which was great. DJâing live just restores balance in my life simply put. Things were coo, until the night some genius thought itâd be nice to steal a majority of my equipment the night of one of my gigs. I had my laptop, headphones, needles, vinyl, and a few other things that set me back. A lot. Thousands of songs, investments, memories, all gone. I cried my soul out man. I just got laid off, now this? âWhen it rains, it poursâ was the realest statement of that week. And to top it all off, my soundcloud got deleted for copyright issues. But tbh, new beginnings are healthy. If anything, it taught me to grind even harder.
- Being freshly single is a surreal feeling. Iâve never been single in my 20s until this year, and Iâm 24 now. Imagine that. If itâs anything that Iâve learned since being single, dating is a wild beast of itâs own man. A beast that is cuddle worthy, addicting to play with, and at the same time, so stressful that there are days where you feel like putting it up for adoption. There are no rules to this shit man. Which makes things obviously complicated, with the number one issue being finding the balance between going with the flow with someone youâre really into, and knowing when itâs appropriate to check in and make sure yâall are on the same page. Â Iâm not one to waste anyoneâs time, nor do I want my time to be wasted. But at the same time, letting things happen organically is the beauty of dating. Not knowing what to feel or how to feel sometimes is okay - and I need to accept that. I also need to accept the fact that despite how much I may be into someone, if the timing ainât right - it wonât work. Timing is such a blessing and a curse.
Are yâall still even reading this? My bad.Â
- Got my first big boy job at one of the biggest tech companies you can work for in the Bay Area. Well, Iâm a temp right now but hopefully I get put on permanently. Working for a company like this is a trip. Free gourmet breakfast, smoothies, drinks, and snacks everyday. Can work from home. The office looks like one straight out of a movie. AND WE GOT ROBOTS ROLLING AROUND SAYIN WSUP TO US. LIKE WTF. Being a temp is whack, but all in all, I really canât complain. The foot is in the door.
- On the lowest of keys, I finally started this producing thang. A lot of people actually do not know this, but I was a musician way before I started DJâing. Idk what took so long for me to finally slap myself in the face and do it, but Iâm glad I finally did. Iâm learning so many things at an unbelievable pace right now, which I owe to my DJ knowledge. Iâm not exactly tired of DJâing, but with how saturated this scene is, a reinvention of myself is necessary. Letâs see how this goes. Itâs going great so far.
All in all, what a year of lessons and wake up calls. Definitely grateful of all thatâs happened to me. Looking forward to another year. Bless bless.
