The angel's hand glowed like sun rays, trying to heal and close off the wound, and as soon as she finished, Hai Lan drew her hand back.
"I suppose those creatures won't stop unless you kill them first." She frowned at Mercy, her tone shifted into her usual calm and soothing one, "That's one dangerous task you got there. Is it just you killing vampires? Or are there more of you?"

Hai Lan still couldn't believe how this person survive inside the sarcophagus, but she simply shrug it off and let the universe find the answer itself, as she had seen stranger and worse whether she's in a courtroom or in her office, and it's her time to show Nebty outside the museum.
Hai Lan still had no idea where she could take Nebty first, as she might worry things could get overwhelming to her and she wants to make sure the other's experience in the outside world was fun and positive. Hai Lan was on deep thinking, until she had an idea.
"Hey, Nebty." Hai Lan turned to her, giving her a small, gentle smile, "I was thinking, what if... we go to the park? You know, where you can see different kinds of trees, flowers and birds flying around... What do you think?"

As soon as Hai Lan finished talking to one of her clients, she escorted the client outside before continuing her office work. It had been a slow day at Arcana Associates and she didn't have any scheduled client appointments for the rest of the day.
She had thought she was going to have a break until she heard one of her staff talking and arguing to someone. Hai Lan decided to investigate, rising from her chair before heading outside to meet with the receptionist and stepped in.
"Shuyi, that is not a way to treat a new client. Allow me to take it from here. This might be something urgent." Her voice remained calm and gentle, Hai Lan could tell right away as she had never seen this individual before, motioning Hope to follow her inside the office, finally opening the door for her, "Ignore her. She haven't had coffee since this morning."

Zora had looked at the medium-sized cup that they were glancing at. It didn't seem like what they had ordered in the first place. They glanced at the order cups available to see what they had been looking through.
"I think this might be your tea. " They offered the cup over to her to see if that was what she was looking for in the first place.
Hai Lan took the cup from them and opened the lid, checking to see before nodding, "This might be it. Jasmine tea is my usual order."
She looked at the couple of cups on the counter, then turned her head towards Zora, "What do you have?"
"A--- Come again? A nature spirit?" That's not something she's ever heard before. "What does that mean? What do they look like?"
"Well, they are guardians of the forest and they come in different forms. The ones I've met earlier are called Dryads. They came to me so they can seek assistance because they want their own land to be protected and it's my job to solve agreement disputes."

Hai Lan was now sitting at the desk, using her computer to access the file for the client she was preparing to meet up with. Her plan was simple: Hai Lan would need to meet Zora in person to have them signed legal agreements in case anyone otherworldly wanted their services, making sure both parties are aware of what they are getting into in order to prevent future conflicts.
As soon as she saw them, Hai Lan ordered her staff to leave them, gesturing and offering them to take a seat, “Zora Andrews, thank you for taking the time to show up. My name is Attorney Zhang and I'm a contract lawyer of Arcana Associates. I normally focus on negotiating, writing and reading binding agreements so today, we will go over everything and I will be sure you aware of the terms and conditions. Shall we start?"

I have so much more to expand in Hai Lan’s backstory and her world building but here are the fun facts about Hai Lan’s lore…
The main villain in Hai Lan’s story are the higher beings called The Archons of the High Bench, they are the cold and bureaucratic council who targets anyone who breaks celestial laws, including Hai Lan. They also want Hai Lan’s son Jie to wipe out his existence, which is why Hai Lan is willing to protect him and her partner Song Lin.
I have figured out Song Lin’s profession. He is an archivist and historian, which is why he plays an essential role in Hai Lan’s life and how much help she needs from him. He is able to access forgotten and abandoned treaties from The Archons of the High Bench and these can be used as deterrents.
The Archons of the High Bench has it’s own court officials, since Hai Lan formerly used to work under them, Hai Lan has access to their archives and secret loopholes, and even motivated her to build Arcana Associates located on Earth.
The Archons of the High Bench has executioners and warriors called The Redactors. They are the angels who are trained and experienced in purging the supernaturals or anyone who stands in the council’s way.
Because of Hai Lan’s ‘rebellion’ or ‘sin’, majority of her allies are demons, and not all of them are typical cruel and evil beings. In fact, some of them became her clients and Hai Lan helped them win the case, and they are returning the favor to her by helping Hai Lan protect Jie.
Angels Fall by Breaking Benjamin is one of the songs that’s associated with Hai Lan.

If anyone is curious how Hai Lan gets paid on Arcana Associates, it would be through her connections and she accepts any payments, especially artifacts, gemstones, gold and anything that can be converted into cash money.
Before her earnings go into her bank account, each of them is always checked thoroughly and the amount would depend on the quality and authenticity of each. She knows a few people who can handle this specialty and leave it to them, and trusts them enough to reveal how Arcana Associates work and it’s supernatural nature behind it.
