can't lie it does fuck me up deeply that in flashbacks touga's hair is already long while saionji's remains comparatively short and then you think about how touga in the movie reflects that he grew his hair out to please his adoptive father who was sa'ing him... and how in an interview about the movie it was stated that the sheer discrepancy between his normal life with nanami and saionji by day and being assaulted by his adoptive father by the night caused him to start dissociating... and that it was that very sense of distance and detachment he began projecting as a result of that which led to saionji beginning to feel inferior to and resentful of him...
juri canonically wears a shirt underneath her jacket (we see it amongst the clothes she throws on the floor during one of her sad gay showers) like any normal person would. but then there’s touga and saionji. who are both rawdogging the student council uniform experience in a way that causes me extreme psychic damage to imagine. putting aside the sensory nightmare that is stiff starched fabric against bare skin, you just know those jackets stink so so bad. there is ZERO buffer between the white cotton(?) and their nasty teenage grime. plus touga probably drenches his in rose cologne or some shit, which just makes it worse. and we’re supposed to believe all the ohtori girls want these idiots? it boggles the mind, truly.
Been thinking a lot about the way Saionji sets up the expectations for both the audience and Utena of what counts as “abusive” in episode 1, which allows Touga and later Akio to better slip under the radar

Black Educators Teaching English in Asia
Hello Tumblr-folks!
I'm posting this on behalf of my amazingly wonderful friend Shantá who is currently in Scotland working on her Master's Degree. And that means writing a dissertation. Which in her case means doing research.
I know how the web of shares works on Tumblr and I am hoping that we can share this far and wide so that it will come across the dashs of those who fit her demographic.
So if you ARE a Black educator (you don't have to be American) who teaches or has taught English in Asia, PLEASE click the link and fill out the questionnaire. Research Study
If you DON'T fit that demographic PLEASE share this post so that it can make it to the right eyes.
I have been talking up how helpful all of our followers and mutuals on Tumblr are with this kind of thing, so let's show off how great we are!
Without further ado, here is a little intro from my badass bestie:
Hi! My name is Shantá and I am a postgraduate student at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. I am from the States, but relocated to the UK to pursue my master's degree in Global Business Communication. After successfully passing all my courses in the first term, I am now spending the summer working on my dissertation, which centers the lived experiences of Black educators teaching English in Asia. My focus is primarily for those with experience in TESOL/TEFL spaces, but I am open to participants in the JET Program or other programs where you were/are teaching English in an Asian country.
You may be wondering, what this has to do with my specific program. Since English is often considered the "global language of business," I am investigating who gets to be the face of this global language.
If you or someone you know has this specific background and experience and would like to contribute to this research study, please complete the attached/enclosed questionnaire. Please note that the questionnaire will be available online until 23:59 BST on 28 July 2026
Although the questionnaire outlines pertinent information on the privacy policy as well as the data collection and use, I understand you may have some additional questions about the research study. If so, please feel free to send me an email at d.mcdonaldbey.25 (at) abdn.ac.uk
Thank you!
Research Study
Go forth and share!
Thanks! Adrian @ Optimytical Studios
I hate the clingy incestous little sister Archetype so much in anime because nothings ever done with it outside of it being a male gaze fetish. Like wow ok the 50th little sister competing and hating with the other female cast while the older brother is uncomfortable and plays dumb and just HAPPENS to accidently be in situations where he sexualizes her. Im sure it'll do something the next 50 times I see it.
But one of my favorite characters of all time is Nanami Kiryuu. The concept of a girl who idolizes her brother and does the whole clingy incestous little sister song and dance, not nessicarily because shes incestously attracted to him but because she feels like if it wasnt for her connection to him no one would love her the way that they love him.
And them being blood related siblings is the only reason that not only everyone loves her, but her own brother loves her too. Like she genuinely feels she is so worthless and unlovable on her own merit that she needs to cling to touga for people to care about her. Like you would think in a situation where its revealed two characters like this are adoptive siblings nanami would be overjoyed so she can be with toga. But she isnt. Shes angry and distraught and in denial that that is her blood relative.
And then she is presented the opportunity to have sex with (and i say this loosely RGU clearly plays what happens as implied assault) touga she backs away in disguist because. Shes not attracted to him. She just wants someone who is guaranteed to love her no matter what. And your family is supposed to. Because thats your blood. They are the only people who are guaranteed to love no matter what. They should anyway. And she sees those lines blurred in real time by touga and thats not what she wants. She just wants him to care about her.
It breaks my heart to think about it.

at the medium-expertise high-intensity low-commitment part-time semi-seasonal call-me-and-I’ll-drive-out outside job experiencing coworker lore at concentrations that would be lethal to the median busybody
sideways off a tree 30 feet in the air and semi upside down clipping cables listening to my 23 year old coworker I see seven to ten weekends a year explain how things may or may not be off with her late 50s early 60s I’m too polite to ask boyfriend who she’s legally married to but they also are still trying for a baby. the world is a place full of people in it.

why do so many recent fantasy books only have a single non-binary person in them. everyone understands the person is non-binary there is no stumbling over pronouns or need to explain—yes, the wizard librarian we’ve all seen them—but there’s only ever One. the author cares enough to acknowledge the existence of people who fall outside of a gender binary but not enough to invest in there being like. a community. wizard gender studies. there’s just grevory the they/them librarian who sprung fully formed and fully non-binary into the magical land of fortinblargh or whatever the fuck

I know "I don't wanna be evil anymore bc of a girl" is a classic but I'm always like oh? comparing your feelings for your boss to your feelings for a girl? it's a bit bisexual
you can't blame her for not knowing but the way that he likes to randomly initiate chaste but startling displays of affection is very similar to another guy she knows
