HC; the darker twist (and the thing that’s most likely happening) to tamamo and matsuura’s current relationship is that it has abusive/manipulative undertones in it. as much as matsuura is grateful that the great kitsune has saved her life, she fears that if she dares to go against her master’s wishes, she would be punished or worse, killed. tamamo is fully aware of this and uses her pledge of service much to her pleasure. occasionally, she has given the kudagitsune little ‘punishments’ or threats whenever she pleases. matsuura may be quiet but has endured it for so many years.
