for a ship that is supposedly about equals, some people really enjoy positioning harry in narratives as lesser than tom. which is the prerogative of whoever wants that, but i won't claim to understand the appeal.

some people want tom to be weak, but only for harry. and then they want harry to be weak... but more often than not, he's just weak, period.

just as i don't see tom being truly satisfied with ruling over the world once he's conquered it, i also don't see him being satisfied with harry once he's broken him.

to me, there is little to no narrative satisfaction in breaking a character like harry in this way. harry is resilient. he's a fighter. he also isn't so easily tricked, it is a literal point of canon is that he understands tom better than everyone else does. to push him into a passive, submissive role, he might as well not be harry anymore.

tom, however, who thinks himself above emotions like love, who obsesses endlessly over his self image, is much more fun to plague with concepts like submission. that is a transformation that either brings him closer to harry, or drives him further away. the confrontation of vulnerability is always delicious.

A few years later, now seven years old and with plenty of snake interactions under his belt, Harry encounters a most unusual and seemingly lost snake while reading in the park. Harry becomes determined to help his new friend find a safe place to live.

Now a uni student and still having no idea of magic, Harry decides to start a side hustle by selling pictures of his feet. Harry ends up with one particularly enthusiastic follower, GauntsNails.

Harry is aimless after the war, jumping from one thing to the next, unsure what his purpose is now, and hating the expectations still placed on him. He decides fixes Sirius's motorbike, and relishes in the visceral sense of freedom he gets from riding it.

Harry wanders on his bike, slowly withdrawing from the wizarding world. Until it forcibly rushes back in, when one night he crashes into a man who looks ominously familiar, yet remembers nothing so much as his name.
