What is an Apprenticeship?

combine training and work experience.

looking for. As an apprentice you will be employed by a local
employer who will support and guide you in your role. Distinctive

Is an apprenticeship right for you?
Apprenticeships are open to anyone aged over 16, living in England
or Wales and not in full time education. The level of qualification
you will work towards depends on any previous qualifications you
have gained and your past work experience.
To become an apprentice you will need to show that you
are committed and determined to succeed and are aware of
your responsibilities as an employee. You will also need to be
comfortable working in a team as well as independently. If you

allocated assessor will visit you in your workplace every 4-6 weeks
for approximately 2 hours, each visit will be arranged in advance.
The NVQ is the National Vocational Qualification and is the
work based qualification. You will be assessed in the work
place by a specialist training officer who will:

Provide feedback to your employer
In order to complete the NVQ, your training officer will
collect evidence – products, photo’s, witness testimonies and
question and answer sessions.
This is a technical certificate which focuses on one specific
topic related to your trade. It is an online test which is
taken during the apprenticeship, full training will be given
KEY SKILLS / FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Are general, everyday skills that are needed to assist you to
work well in your job. Depending on the apprenticeship you
may need to complete, numeracy, literacy and ICT. They all
involve multiple choice tests and portfolio work, you will be
given as much support as needed and any necessary training.
