Of Durin's line

          ❝What business? I’m always looking after Kíli, you know that.           But I’m not sure uncle Thorin needs any looking after - what he           needs is some fun. Will you be gone for long?                                                       Why can’t we come with you?❞

    "Nothing grave, I merely intend to buy some goods and perhaps polish our name a little. I know you do, but it won't hurt to stress the matter. Thorin may be older than the both of us, but that doesn't leave him invincible. Though I don't disagree on the fun bit. Mahal knows he could smile more often. I won't be gone longer than a week and it's because Thorin might need your assistance while I'm gone."

    A look of surprise passed onto the youngest in the line of Durin. He had not expected his mother to actually come to an agreement with him. Perhaps it was because she knew how much he hated the catcalling, the babying him. He was a grown —- okay, mostly grown —- dwarf. He wished to be treated that way. “You’re serious?” Kíli mumbled before he jumped up. “Thank you, thank you— by Mahal, thank you,” he exclaimed, leaping himself forward to hold his mother for a moment, pressing their foreheads together. “Thank you.”

    Almost immediately could she tell that she would end up regretting her very own decision. Perhaps it would do her son good to watch some more experienced hunters, perhaps it would only fuel his overestimation of himself. Time would tell she was certain. "Yes, yes, I know," she countered, giving a silent chuckle, a hand coming up to pat his cheek softly, eyes closing momentarily as their foreheads touched. "Just.. always remember to be careful and to come back to me."

        A sigh left his lips. He did not like the idea of hunting in a group, for he would be the youngest and no matter how talented or eager, there would be teasing. There always was after he had returned from a hunt and gotten the same lecture from his mother. “I know you do. If you will not let me hunt on my own, please—” Kíli was desperate, but these were words that damaged his pride and he never expected to say, “— let me join the troop. Hunt with them every once in a while. I hate feeling so locked up.”

    She was the youngest of three herself, and painfully aware of the disadvantages her age had always brought. Never would her father let her join the merchants or scouts, he always held her in Erebor. and even after the mountain was lost, they would not let her move as freely as she had wished. She supposed that all the talk of understanding things with growing age held some spark of truth.. "I know you do, and I don't enjoy having to keep you here." A pause, then-- long and cut off by a sigh. "..yes, by Mahal's beard. You may join them from time to time. But be careful no less!"

         Kíli knew that they had this conversation many times before. They’d never come to an agreement, in his younger years had even caused him to be grounded more than once. His bow taken away for a week— such things. “I do not need to do it constantly—” he started. Usually he would have tried to bargain with her, but today he decided against it. He lowered his head and nodded slowly. “Yes, Mother.”

    Contrary to popular opinion, the lady did not enjoy acting sternly towards her sons. Mahal knew they needed it from time to time, but the disappointed glances the returned were all too trained in melting her heart within the flash of a moment. She let out a small sigh and placed a hand on her son's shoulder, giving a reassuring, yet small smile. "I love you and your brother very much, Kíli. And I know that you are a lot like your uncle when he was your age, but I cannot let you go hunting on your own just yet. You're too young."

"Ah, honestly, don’t even get me started on their lack of manners! It’s enough to drive me crazy, you know." He snorted and laughed a little, offering her a smile. "Alright, then. What would you like for me to do?"

     "We can be quite the handful. I should know, seeing as Ered Luin's biggest troublemakers are my very sons." She gave a light nod, a bright smile remaining on her features. "I'm not quite certain, truth be told. Though I wouldn't turn down some lessons regarding hobbit cuisine."

           ”If I were to say no, you wouldn’t believe me, would you?” Perhaps he had gone a little overboard. He’d aimed for spots that would not kill them, but he needed practice. “Mother, if you would just let me hunt—”

     "No." Her words were firm, though softened after she exhaled quietly. It was one thing to remain persistent about something she had permitted, but an entirely different matter to target animals that were not his to target. "We've had this discussion before, Kíli. You're too young to be constantly marching through the woods. And least you want me to keep you from joining the larger hunting parties in the future, you will cease to injure any more kettle. Are we clear?"

"Well, I suppose I wanted to see if you’d like any help. Thorin is off doing..King things, so..I thought perhaps this would be a good time for us to bond? Or..something like that, anyways."

    "The day I refuse help in the kitchen is the day Mahal himself strikes me dead. Yes, he seems rather.. occupied as of late." A laugh, then. "I was always fond of Hobbits; they hold the kind of polite manners many dwarves seem to lack nowadays. Feel free to be in my company for as long as you'd like."

"You will forgive me if we are careful. The latest occurences had only proven that the world will son be infested with even more orcs. You are safe within my borders, because I call you friend, lady Dís."

      "Dark times lie ahead of us, I have no illusions about that. Driving back the horde will be no easy task; the battle's victory has been a small one.. Alas, I appreciate your permission to stay in your realm; it's an honour to be enjoying your company, lord Thranduil."
