Frequently Asked Borises (and other info)
not named for any notable personages, but named because as a small kitten it would be funny for him to be a Boris and as a big cat it would be funny for him to be a Buttons
as it turns out, being a boris is just priceless
he is a british shorthair cat, or a british blue
he has the blood of colonizers running through his veins
he was born in february 2019 and so he approaches the age of 4
How does he get along with other cats?
he does not like them, i suspect this is because he grew up surrounded by cats who only look like him, and thus is cat racist
How does he get along with dogs?
while he has been startled and hissed at sudden dogs before, he actually gets along with them quite fine and quite enjoys their company
we used to have a golden retriever who boris loved very much, to the point of boris licking our dog's ears and curling up against him, though our dog was a bit weirded out by this grey thing following him around all the time
our dog passed in 2020, and boris misses him
How does he get along with birds?
he has a timeshare agreement with the local cockatiel where they take turns making use of the local facilities without having to meet each other because they have mutually exclusive interests
he also enjoys birdwatching in general
How does he get along with humans?
he is a little shy when it comes to strangers but he can warm up to people and brush against them
he kinda just has a look of resignation if you pick him up for too long, and allows himself to be patted and cuddled
he does enjoy seeing humans around, his tail goes up when he sees a human and goes down when he walks away, or maybe it's just me
if you feed him a treat he will love you
only on a leash, because there are dangerous things like cars and dogs and being picked up by the local RSPCA, and also the native birdlife don't deserve to be menaced by a small grey man
when he was younger and couldn't climb over the wall, he had supervised leash-less visits to the garden, but that stopped when he discovered he can climb fences
he still really wants to get over that fence and explore the world, otherwise known as the neighbour's garden, and sometimes if we're not careful he will cannonball himself over the fence, leading to a search and rescue operation
Can you actually walk him on a leash?
the thing about walking a cat is that they dont go in a straight direction like a dog
also boris does not want to go further than the driveway because it's scary out there so we end up just doing circles around the car
Is he as soft as he looks?
Can I metaphorically internet pat and cuddle Boris?
