Older art from last year's January, this time about a passion project of mine regarding Httyd - a headcanon rewrite/redesign of Dragons: The Nine realms!
The show is bad. It sucks and I don't understand how it ever aired let alone ran for so long. However I have a soft spot for stuff like Nine Realms or Mlp Gen5, where I see the ides and concepts and like it, even though the real product disappoints.
So with Nine Realms, I have my own loose rewrites and headcanon ideas about how I would execute it by changing some things but keeping to the blueprint. I personally liked the idea of expanding on the Hidden world and bringing dragons to a modern age, but sadly the show fell flat in that regard.
One of my biggest pet peeves being the "Jörmungandr". To contain an angry rant, I'll just say I hate it lol. I grew up loving characters like the Screaming Death and the Great Devourer, so a giant snake as an animal antagonist is cool to me.
So in my rewrite, Jörmungandr is what the kids call the giant dragon, but the species is named Unfathomable Doomfrill (still a wip), and the one they encounter in the story is the last one left of the prehistoric species, hence the size. It had been in hibernation for ages, but due to human intervention and activity in the Hidden World, it awakens.
I want to approach the character as an animal. It's not inherently evil, but it's a gigantic creature, confused and alone in a world and age it doesn't know. It's docile at first, but should it ever grow upset.. yeah it'd be bad news. It also doesn't help that the dragons' language has changed and developed in the thousands of years it's been asleep, so nobody can quite communicate with the poor creature.
