Older edits ranging from December 2024 to the late Spring of 2025
People seemed to like the Light fury edits, so here's something a little different - LA Toothless edits! (No AI was used to make these)
Once again I want to be clear: I don't want to sound spiteful, nor do I think my opinion is the correct one. Whether you like the live-action or not is completely up to you and if you enjoy if, I'm glad you do! I don't want to take away from anyone's enjoyment ^^' /gen
Anyway, rambles under the cut about the movie and the edits, although from a critical view of someone who does not enjoy it, so that will be visible in the tone
That being said, I haven't watched the full live-action movie myself. I followed it's development, saw the trailers, read interviews and articles - I probably will eventually watch it just 'cause, but for now I just haven't bothered. I share the sentiment that the movie is a shallow cashgrab to follow a trend that was always mid at best, horrible at worst.
Aside from story details being changed and some dialogue I don't care for, my main issue is the visuals. The colors, the outfits, the movement and design of the dragons (ngl the Monstrous Nightmare is my biggest grievance because it's my favourite dragon in the franchise. It's not necessarily the worst of the bunch, but again it's so generic, and the thing that bothers me is how skinny and gangly it is, just a worm with wings </3. How does my boy fly with no chest muscles to move those wings) - everything that is the world we're presented on-screen. It's all either bad or just generic. The original Httyd movie is one of my all time favorite movies and one of the main contributors to that is the visual masterpiece that it is.
So anyway, Toothless. There was never going to be an easy way to redesign one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the world, so I don't want to be too harsh. (In general, I mean no ill will towards the artists and animators who worked on this project) However as the habit has been, unfortunately this design falls in the same direction as Httyd 3 (even Httyd 2 Toothless in some aspects, these comparisons are a common topic) does. Aside from obvious, commonly covered "cat -> dog" traits, everything about the design favors a sort of "show don't tell" type of approach if that makes sense. Exaggerated, cartoonish expressions, very saturated and large eyes, it's very far-removed from the Toothless I personally prefer, which is the original one. He was more reserved, more eerie. You had to pay attention to his movements and expressions to understand what he was feeling, but it still wasn't complicated to do so. Both are valid ways to design a character, but in Toothless' case, the latter suits his character better in my opinion.
The designs of him I most prefer besides the og, and the ones who keep his characteristics the best are in my opinion the Gift of the Night fury, Riders/Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge models (with the shows' design maybe being a little light in color and eyes being a touch too dull, but anyway). Oh, and special shoutout to the new Toothless animatronic at Epic Universe's Isle of Berk, love that little guy! /lh
After all that exposition, here's FINALLY the part about these edits xD I wouldn't call these "redesigns", these were made for fun, as a design practice to see how he would look with traits more akin to the Toothless I prefer. Nothing fancy, just gave him his blue hue, made his eyes smaller and adjusted the color, plus added his scars and markings and some other minor adjustments.
I have done these sorts of edits many times since they're quite simple but fun, and I have some from Httyd 3 and 2 Toothless as well, and I really want to make a few with the TV show model at some point, so I might share those in the future!
Note: NO AI was used in creating these edits. They were made entirely by hand.
Another heads up: TW for mentions or canon-typical violence below.
Since I posted about Adderback, I figured I should share about Birchbeak too! I think these edits are back from 2023 and 2024 respectively. In these ones I also practised a bit with giving Hilda more of her own faceshape, by altering it from Astrid's original a little π Also Nine Realms may be bad, BUT AT LEAST IT FINALLY GAVE ME TIMBERJACK BASES TO USE WOOHOO /lh
Anyway Birchbeak is a Timberjack, and she is also Hilda's dragon. Timberjacks are my second favorite Httyd species so of course I couldn't pick just one. Although Birchbeak and Adderback don't share a lot of time, as Hilda and the Monstrous Nightmare meet the Timberjack in Httyd 3, stumbling across the wild dragon during their exploration of the island. She is initially wary of the two, but is in the end the one to swoop in and save the drowning human, downed by the weight of her dragon who had done the last sacrifice to save her from a hunter's arrow.
So unfortunately Hilda has to leave her dear Nightmare to be claimed by that final battle, and afterwards Birchbeak becomes her dragon.
Note: atp I take creative liberties with the canon ending and it varies a bit based on what I'm feeling like, but the short of it is, the suggestion of dragons leaving is brought up, but does not proceed to happen as unanimously as it did in the movie. Oh yeah also Hilda does live on Berk, although she wasn't born and raised there, only joined after running (or.. flying?) into Hiccup, herself being cast out from her own island.
Note: NO AI was used in the creation of these edits, there made entirely by hand.
I don't have anything new to share right now, so I'm taking the chance to share a compilation of edits ranging from 2023 to now - subject being my ridersona and her dragon Adderback!
Monstrous Nightmares have always been my absolute favorite Httyd dragon, so of course my sona Hilda (who as of now has no concrete design of her own and is just a very simple Astrid recolor lmao. I have been working on a ref for her own original outfits etc lol) has one π
Adderback's your classic Nightmare with a bit of an ego and sarcastic flair, but loyal to a fault and not as outwardly stubborn as Hookfang for example. He'll butt heads with Hilda of course, but their arguments tend to look more in-synch than a certain other pair's.. (a lot less of her being set on fire for example /lh)
Together they enjoy a good adventure or two, but also love dragon racing or just a chill afternoon spent lazing about on a sunny field or some quiet forest lake

Ok, this is going to get long, strap in (or alternatively skip the rambles ig lmao). /lh
So I recently read through the published issues of the Absolute Batman comic. I never planned to read this comic, the premise, for how people portrayed it, felt too edgy (even though I dislike using that word lol). Then I heard that Scarecrow had made an appearance in the comic - I read the whole thing in the span of a few hours (and ended up really liking it too).
And man, that comic and its depiction of Scarecrow just reminded me of why this character was, and continues to be my absolute favorite character from any piece of fiction ever created. Par none but Soundwave, especially after his amazing depiction in the Transformers IDW comics and how much both of these characters have impacted me personally. So I decided "you know what, it's been too long since I gave into the autistic urge to sing his praises" /lh
I also want to mention since I feel this is often misunderstood nowadays: Scarecrow is my favorite character and I love him, but I don't mean that in a fictional crush of selfship sort of way. I have no problem with either concept (and I do have a couple of my own of those too), but in this case my fascination in the character is not like that, I just think he's really neat ^^ (plus honestly I hc him as aroace but that's besides the point)
All that being said, below the cut is but a fraction of the appreciation I have for what is in my opinion one of the most underrated Batman villains (at least when it comes to the guys who own him and their usage of him in stories lol) Oh and here's a little drawing of Arkham Asylum Scarecrow to go with this so there's something more than just text here lol.
I first saw Scarecrow when playing Lego Batman 2 on the Ps3 way back in the day, when I was young and knew very little about DC. He was just a funny witch as far as I knew, but that was my first memory of him, after which I'd see him pop up in some animated movies, etc.
But the first time I paid real notice to the character, and what would become my absolute favorite iteration of the character (by personality, story and design), is when I decided to play Batman: Arkham Asylum in 2019. I've always enjoyed intelligent, strategic characters, they're my jam. Logically, Scarecrow fills these expectations, but that alone is not what caught my attention here. He doesn't get a lot of screentime in the game, but when he does, he uses it well.
Scarecrow and how he appears and functions in Asylum is unlike any of the other characters. He's eerie, mysterious, out of reach and even out of bounds. He literally makes it seem like the game crashed and your save got lost, so your playthrough supposedly starts all over from the beginning. He warps reality, and you don't even know he's struck until it starts to kick in. And I love that it's still possible to notice, you can hear the gas as it floods into the room before every single Scarecrow encounter in the game.
The final thing to strike me upon this first impression, is the fact that Scarecrow never physically hurts Batman, other than the prick of injection needles I guess lol. He can't physically match Batman or even most normal people, yet he's capable of controlling a room with nothing more than words, a presence, and of course some knowledge in chemistry.
And him in Arkham Knight - I can't even begin to describe how much I love his story in the Arkham games, but he is absolutely the highlight of that game and carries the whole thing for me, where as otherwise the game is a bit mid imo (story and characterwise mainly). Only complaints are that he got robbed so bad ALSO WHERE IS THE BOSSFIGHT ROCKSTEADY. WHERE ARE MY FEAR TOXIN ENCOUNTERS. AND NO I DON'T MEAN THE "AR TRAINING".
And to return to an earlier point, which Absolute Batman also beautifully displayed: how effortlessly Scarecrow can hold complete control over a room with nothing more than his presence. To draw an example that's not as spoilery as a very new comic issue, I'll just refer to the very first face-to-face encounter we have with him in Arkham Knight. A weak, crippled man in a tiny room with no escape. He proceeds to get down on his knees and raise his hands before the Dark Knight, yet he says "I am in complete control". And it's not a bluff, he is.
These same observations of the character carry on to other depictions of him and why I enjoy him. Of course there are many other characteristics about him I enjoy too. The analytical mind, the attitude and sarcasm, the "I'm surrounded by idiots" vibe... He has a lot of attributes I relate to actually - which I don't think I need to explain that I obviously don't mean to say I relate to him as the criminal or justify his actions, but the habit of explaining that fact compels me to say it anyway lol.
Honestly I feel like there's so much I'm failing to mention here, I just love so many aspects of the character, but one of the saddest things is how much he gets misused (if he is used at all). I feel like so many stories and depictions misunderstand him, or just don't bother to utilize him at all. Most commonly, he's only there to be another thug in Joker's crew or worse - they don't need him at all, they just need him for the gimmick, aka the fear toxin. (Which, don't even get e started on Batman Begins. The one chance he had to be in a major, live-action movie and they fumbled it. And it's sad because I genuinely think Cillian Murphy could have portrayed a great Scarecrow, but nah. He's just some drug dealer dude WHO DIDN'T EVEN INVENT THE TOXIN OK)
Another reason that Scarecrow has become such a meaningful character to me, rivaled only by Soundwave, is how much he has impacted my life personally. This is the character that got me into psychology. This is the character that worked as a comfort during the most depressing years of my life. He gave me completely new ways to look at characters and stories and how to interpret and/or create them, gave me insight into fear and the human mind when I started therapy and began to learn about self-reflection, and so much more. I discovered so much about the world and how to look at it through this silly costumed crook, and that's just really cool to to me.
Tldr: Scarecrow's cool. I just think he's neat. That is all <3 /lh
Disclaimer: I do NOT use AI in my edits and they are all made by hand, using existing screenshots.
A bunch of old edits from May 2023, this time technically not rewrite AU stuff (although they do exist in the AU because for my ocs it's the "canon" one), but two of my Nine Realms ocs! I actually have a bunch, but for now this is Illusia and Cerberus β¨οΈ
Illusia is the closest to a canon-accurate Light fury oc that I have (my Httyd fury ocs tend to have less "species accurate" coloring, or are just fan species). She is a reclusive dragon with a mutation that causes her scales' reflective nature to be extra sensitive to heat, basically meaning they will start turning reflective even just from being in direct sunlight during the day, making her practically fade away during daytime. This was seen as an oddity in her pack, back home in the Hidden World (which yes, worldbuilding funfact, the Hidden World does get sunlight, though not by there literally being a secondary sun in the underground cavern's "sky" /j /lh) so she never was that social, or confident. Still, when the ceiling opened to create a door to a new world above the one she'd always known, she wasted no chance going to explore the one above where stars shined and clouds wandered.
Cerberus, meanwhile, is a young Red Death (an adult, but not as old and experienced as say, the Red Death from Httyd, so he is considerably smaller, "small" being a relative term /lh) The young death was building a flock of his own in the Hidden World, but an older, more experienced death stole it and his territory, thus the youngster was forced to flee, now residing in an ancient, undiscovered entrance to the Hidden World, located beneath a fjord in modern day Norway. In this way, he is almost like a "guardian" for this undiscovered gateway to the world beneath him, by pure accident.
The two dragons also happen to be friends! Although Cerberus is a death and gathering a flock is his nature, he is also quite laid back by character and enjoys the company that the Light fury sometimes brings when she visits.
"Unity crystals? Oh please, call them what they are - Twilight Sparkle's poor replication of me"
β’
Opaline's fullbody design for my rewrite AU of G5! Finally got around to drawing her and so I wanted to talk a bit about how she is in my AU.
Rambles under the cut, in a bit of a storytelling fashion!
The Unity Crystals, the three pieces to seal away all magic, were not made to resemble three pony kinds (as I don't think Twilight would want to enforce that type of separation, plus the magic isn't only the ponies', it's all magic from all creatures in Equestria). No, the important detail is what they become when combined: an alicorn.
In reality, Twilight creating the crystals was just a means of doing what Opaline would have done, had Twilight not beat her to it. Only, crystals are less likely to abuse all that power after obtaining it.
See, Opaline's magical specialty in my AU (like unicorns in G4 used to have each their unique magical talent, aside from basics like levitation etc) is extraction of magic. Collecting it like sap from a tree. In Equestria such a talent borders on miracle, but Opaline wasn't from Equestria, she was from Skyros. And as a god among gods (alicorns having longer lifespan, stronger magic, etc), it's harder to stand out. When everypony is special, nopony is. That's how Opaline saw it.
So how would she become a god above gods? Why, by being the one who controls that godhood. If she could have power over all of magic, granting it to the world only as she sees fit, she could finally stand out, making everyone dependant on her. She only needed to develop her magic so she'd be able to extract any and all magic and collect it for herself.
Only Skyros caught on, and cast out the disgraced alicorn, into the lands below. Out of sight out of mind (they were a very high and mighty kingdom in their time, rather disconnected from the rest of the world, seeing themselves as better than them. Luna and Celestia for example were different in this instance, and after being sent to conquer Equestria in the name of Skyros, decided to instead abandon their old home and become part of this new land, finding value where their alicorn kin had seen none. It was a disgrace, so the gatesof Skyros were locked for them forevermore). It took a while for Opaline to recover her footing, but this development did little to deter her, it only changed her target. Equestria would now become the first to bow to her.
I don't want to give away absolutely everything yet, but as things started escalating, Twilight slowly realized there was no way to stop what Opaline intended to do. Equestria would lose all its magic, and there was no stopping it. Only choosing who would have that power.
So it was done. And Opaline, as an alicorn stripped of so much magic at once, fell into an endless dream. Until of course, the crystals would one day be brought together once more.
And the rest is history.
The most tragic part of this is, Skyros' story isn't over yet. And when Opaline and the future ponies discover what the conclusion is, there comes a revelation: the thing that got Opaline cast out and down the path of evil, could have in another life saved Skyros and given Opaline the fame she wished for. Only instead of a disgraced god she'd have been a savior.
Light fury edits from April and September of 2025 β¨οΈ
Note: These edits were made entirely by hand, NO AI was used.
I want to start by saying this is in NO way meant to be in the spirit of Httyd 3 hate, or the way the discussion and criticism around the 3rd movie escalated back in the days. I don't think anyone meant any harm back then, but I think we can all agree it got bad from time to time. If you do like Httyd 3? That's perfectly fine, I'm glad you find it enjoyable and I in no way want to take away from anyone's experiences π /gen
This gets a bit long, so Httyd 3 and Light Fury rambles under the cut π One last thing though: this is not meant as Light Fury hate either. Just a little design exercise I did for fun π
That said, I will be honest in saying that my opinion has always been and remains to this day, that Httyd 3 is the weakest addition to the franchise (not counting Nine Realms), and completely contradicts the movies' overall tone only to shoehorn in the book ending. Which is not a bad ending or a bad message, but it does not fit the narrative of the movies, which have all along taken their own original route. So the ending and how we got to it do not correlate. Aside from this, the third movie struggles with many themes, such as ableism, misogyny and a bunch of other things I won't get into, lest this goes on forever.
Now, the Light fury has been a topic of discourse since day one. We all know it, we've all seen it, so I don't want to go into it too much here. That said, this post is purely about the visual aspect of her character. I will say, I personally have some issues with the canon design, but aside from that I wanted to try and do a slight "redesign" where I try to change as little as possible, while keeping her idea the same. This is the result!
I mainly wanted to give her head more of a shape, add easier-to-see scales and make her ears more pronounced. For comparison I included both the edit and the original screenshot π
Annual Mlp phase decided to pop by for a visit, so here's a bunch of stuff for another one of my loose rewrites, MLP G5! Dragon art is new, Opaline piece is from Autumn of 2024
Similar to Nine Realms, this show (mainly the movie and Make Your Mark, I'm not brainrotted enough to power through Tell Your Tale /lh) is at base level just a bad attempt at cashing in on nostalgy and relying on the established story to carry this one, expect they didn't bother to ACTUALLY put in the effort and follow the old story so now it's just a shameless cashgrab.
At the same time though, there was so much potential, and my storyteller brain noticed so many moments and ideas and characters that could have been great with the right story and effort put into them. (I also absolutely LOVE Queen Haven and Sprout, I'll have to draw them soon too)
As such, here's a couple of G5 rewrite AU shenanigans. Mainly the dragons because they were straight up garbage and ngl it makes me sad that kids nowadays have no good dragons, like between this and the Nine Realms they're really getting the short end of the stick.
Also Opaline's there, because if anything was ever the epitome of "so close yet so far away from being a good character", it would be her. I actually have a WHOLE story figured out for her and she is actually the most developed of my ideas for the rewrite, I really like her β¨οΈ (not in the show mind you, but the idea of her).
My favourite part abt redoing these things has to be the designs and visuals. Using what was already there and adding that little something (or just a complete redesign if the character was that bad, but I usually lean towards smaller changes) to make it pop. For Opaline, it really is as simply as dropping the saturation of her colors. Also I added two additional parts to her mane, which are shaped to look like dragon horns, due to a connection to dragons. Her magic in the AU isn't dragonfire or anything directly related to dragons per say, but it's quite literally that she's always loved dragons and styles herself after them. Yup, Opaline's just a fragon enthusiast (which of valid of her ngl) /lh

I appreciate the answer for my ask, your rewrite which has always been fun to checkup on both in writing and designs.
1. How do you want Icarus to function in this rewrite against the team? Will they parallel Berk in being knowledgeable about the dragons and intend to experiment on them for knowledge or are they relatively close to canon and donβt know too much about the dragon activity in the fissure? But it was refreshing to see that the team had distrust in the company rather than their families working on the project compared to Hiccup.
2. Iβm interested to know your choice of dragon for Sledkin (or if sheβs going to get one at all) but if youβre going for a theme of juxtaposition to the archetypal, such as Eugene taming a Firegill to break the caution that certain dragons are overtly aggressive, and instead can be tamed with the right measures. Do you plan for Sledkin to tame a Floodmaw to reinforce that dragons under the hands of the corrupt can cause blood and tears? From what weβve seen show wise this species can be easily motivated by food, and has gain the teamβs trust even further after the forest fire was put out and the behemoths were easy to rein afterwards. Thus Sledkin banking on its temperament, and seeing the horror of the team as theyβre flying away from one whoβs trying to swallow them whole or blast them alive for its riderβs sake only (with the team wanting to get this dragon out of a Stockholm Syndrome relationship. Or maybe theyβre similar to Buzzsaw and Jack where they actually do care for each other. Which could clash with Sledkinβs calculated demeanor but it could also influence her that sheβs right in sharing the secrets of the Hidden World. Since this discovery has been beneficial to her, so the same can be said for humanity as well with the usefulness and support theyβll receive from these dragons). Overall this is an elaborate guess and Iβm very excited for the route you have in mind for her.
I didn't have anything new to post so here's an older drawing from New Year's eve on 2024! Featuring my full design of Rift (=Thunder) β‘οΈ I won't say much here abt him since it's a long post but yeah but here he is
Anyway glad to hear my AU is enjoyable, it's a small passion project I chip away at occasionally but it's nice to be able to share it with people π«Ά
That aside, answers for the questiond under the cut, because they'll get somewhat long
-ICARIS is still a major wip for the Au. I actually had a very rough concept scetch for a map of the research site, but that's so old that I'd have to go digging to find it so I don't have it for this post, apologies! Anyway I know for certain that I want to give the site more meaning and establishing features which the show lacked, so you never quite had a sense of scale or direction of where everything was located (as opposed to, say Berk or Dragon's Edge where you can immediately pinpoint locations like the Great Hall or the dragon hangars, etc)
That aside I do definitely want to give it the same approach as in the show, where the research site and the Rakke corp. are not initially aware of the dragons, but pose a threat in the form of "we should keep the dragons a secret", as it is in the show. Only difference being I want the threat to feel more active than it is in the show. I also want to include Mr. Rakke himself way sooner, and have him become a permanent part of operations. Still not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, but I liked the sort of John Hammond/Simon Masrani vibe he had to him in the show, so I might still use that π
-Sledkin's an interesting one, I have to say! She was very bland in the show and had me rolling my eyes at the "I need to spell out that I'm a villain" thing that both her and Buzzsaw have going for them. But I love myself a smart, cold and calculating villain, so I definitely want to try and do her better in my rewrite.
First of all I have to say I love that idea of a seemingly docile and unlikely dragon being an antagonist's dragon, it has so much potential! For Sledkin though, I am thinking of a more cold, scientific approach. Unlike in the show though, she puts way more value on the discovery of the dragons than just Dragonsite (which was such a plothole like- girl you just discovered mythical beasts of legend exist, you're going to just brush that off and write a book abt some rocks?). Dragonsite (which I'm still workshopping on what it actually is, maybe still crystals, but not for producing oxygen, instead her mining operation and depletion of it is what will eventually lead to the awakening of JΓΆrmungandr. In that vein I think it'd be a neat detail that instead of being drawn to it, dragons recoil from it, because they know where there's a lot of Dragonsite, instinct says there's something bad) is still her main obsession, but the dragons also hold great potential as not only a means to an end, but also future scientific advancements.
This is all early wip stuff, but this is the train of thought I have: Sledkin takes interest in Deathgrippers. She could possibly learn about their venom through observing or perhaps reading through entries in the Book of Dragons (or omg maybe even Grimmel's personal notes this just hit me. Btw Grimmel is a dumb villain imo in the way he was written, but in this AU hid relevance is that he was a known mercenary in his time, known for utilizing Deathgrippers and downing even dangerous species, like Night furies. NOT the guy who killed an entire species though lol (which btw another thing to note: in this AU, Night furies are NOT extinct. Very rare, yes, but not gone. So that ties into how Rift still has so much black in his scale coloration after generations since Toothless). Anyway she has no interest in bonding with dragons and she doesn't believe in controlling them through fear like Buzzsaw does either, because a beast with a mind of its own, no matter how controlled, will always be a liability in calculations (how she sees it). So I think she'd experiment with making the venom as potent as possible, also work on developing modern armor to cover the Grippers in, to a point where you can't tell if it's a dragon or a machine.
As a sidenote, I want to mention that where as Sledkin won't show any particular cruelty or bargaining (like giving food as conditioning to perform tasks) for dragons (she kind of just treats them with general indifference, an asset for use, though that's not to say that certain procedures and experiments she requires them for won't be painful and abusive), Buzzsaw will instead be that person!
Like briefly mentioned in my last post, we'll get to Buzzsaw later because I'm still trying to figure out how I want to write him without just making him Dagur 2.0, but I know I want his relationship to dragons to be one of control. It always left a bad taste in my mouth that the first Timberjack we get to see as a recurring character in the franchise, is one who gets abused into a friendship. Like Buzzsaw was hurting it, keeping it trapped (although the "tied to the ground with a rope" is a laughably bad way of doing that), and sensory overloading it with the whistle, and then they just.. become buddies? Like I understand HOW that could happen, it's not impossible to believe considering Alvin in Riders and Defenders of Berk, but in this case I'd argue it doesn't matter because anything Buzzsaw did with the Timberjack, was off-screen.
Will he still have a redemption arc? I am leaning towards yes! He'll just take wayyy longer to reach that point, and be more cruel to even his own dragon in this rewrite.
Do you plan for Eugene to permanently ride alongside Jun and have a new character paired with Webmaster? Or does he still have the web gremlin :) and is Copycatβs body shape now similar to a wyvern to be more quetz inspired?
I'll start with the Featherhide question because the Eugene rambles will get LONG. Anyway I'm still undecided! A wyvern is one of the options, though I was also thinking about a more lowered, gecko-like build for scaling walls, etc. As I said I'm still undecided though π
Now, for Eugene, he is my favourite character from the canon show. Does his actual design and writing suck? Absolutely, the final product doesn't manage to be what they probably meant for it to be. Still, he has the most attempts at a compelling character arc (although it's ruined by him always losing said development to serve the ongoing conflicts) and a lot of based moments, plus I have a soft spot for characters like him, Snotlout and Kenji from Camp Cretaceous/Chaos Theory, so this was a given.
That being said, Eugene rambles under the cut β¨οΈ
Eugene does get his own dragon, but it's not Webmaster because, I'll be honest, I hate that design so bad π it's just- it looks like something from Spore and I did not need another uncanny valley Thunderpede situation with the hands π Also just- Webmaster's design seems so random to me, it doesn't really match the other dragons and it doesn't really match Eugene in any way.
THAT rant aside, here's Eugene and his dragon - a Firegill called Partycrasher! It seems like what they tried to do with Webmaster was to make him seem like an unlikely fit for the team, an untrustworthy newcomer that seems like bad news, just like Eugene! So I wanted to keep that, with the Firegills being established as highly hostile and territorial dragons, it's immediately ringing alarm bells for the kids when the dragon that Eugene finally seems to connect with is this one out of all.
Partycrasher is found by the gang, injured by a dragon trap (yes, Buzzsaw still exists, we'll get to him once I figure out how I want to write him clearer π), with his back sail ripped and wing injured. At first they are hesitant to help it incase leading it to the lair for treatment or in general out of the Fire realm could cause future threats where it could possibly lead its whole pack there. But Eugene insists, and surprisingly it's Jun of all people who vouches for him, as seeing him so adamant about something that isn't guaranterd to benefit him in any way, surprises her. Also the fact that his interest in the dragon has lasted for so long, without him getting bored and moving on to the next thing.
And for once, he doesn't fumble the chance he's given. Does he test it? Oh absolutely, he bends and sometimes nearly breaks the trust he's earned, but that's just part of the terms and conditions when you let Eugene join your group /lh
Also additional note, the kids in this AU will be aged 15, and Eugene is 16 years old
Time for my annual "Man, I miss Moon Knight" phase π But I was also wanting to draw cats so this has a bit of a Warrior Cats twist β¨οΈ (Khonshu being a Starclan cat would be the most hilarious thing, certainly an interesting cat to have visit you in a dream and probably yell at you to just figure out the prophecy and do what Starclan wants you to do already /lh)
They genuinely dropped one of the BEST pieces of Marvel media and then never spoke about it again, this is absolutely one of my favourite shows ever, I love it so much π
I could go on to talk about every aspect, but one of the highlights for me was definitely Khonshu, he's just so entertaining with his temperament, yet also really fascinating by character. This got a bit long, but rambles about angry bird's character below the cut π /lh
I love when god characters are given layers and despite Khonshu obviously having many faults, such as his abuse and manipulation of Mark and Steven (I haven't read the comics, so I'm not certain how Jake feels about it all), I also find it really fascinating how human he is. His ego and godly demeanor hides it well and I doubt he's aware of it, but there's moments in the show where you can definitely pick up on a sense of longing in his voice, as he is essentially all alone and isolated - aside from his avatar of course.
This scene being one example. There's something equally somber yet warm in his voice when he talks about the night sky. Another thing is his demeanor before and during the meeting with the other gods: the initial uneasiness about going to the meeting, and then the burst of emotion when he DOES talk to them. Of course Khonshu is generally very temperamental and forward, but I think the moment must have had a certain vulnerability to him, as it's probably the first time in who knows how long that he sees or talks to his fellow gods in any way.
I also wonder wether he acknowledges people admiring the moon and the night sky, and how he feels about it. Is it perhaps a part of why he feels especially strongly about interacting with the mortal world instead of distancing from it? In that vein I wonder if his time in banishment, in seeing the world alongside his avatar during their active duty.
Of course a part of his domain is also being the protector or travelers in the night so it makes sense he'd be more proactive about fulfilling that duty, but it's interesting to see that despite being so cynical, he still is the least detached of the gods.
do you have designs for any of the human characters in the nine realms?
First time drawing these guys, actually π But here's the riders!
When it comes to humans, I have been drawing them for a far shorter time than creatures like animals, so I'm far less experienced at it. That being said, there are things about the Nine Realms humans that need some updating for the AU, whenever I get around to designing/drawing them.
For the most part I want more interesting outfits for the adults, and as for the kids - my main problem comes from their models in the show. D'angelo looks like a shrunk down adult, Jun has purple eyes, things like that. On the whole though, things like hairstyles and colors are mostly fine as is imo. Still, I made a few changes clothing wise just based on what I thought would look nice.
Also these aren't finalized, I'd probably want to add more small details and accessories to the full outfits, but here's a concept (The tooth on D'angelo's necklace is a puma tooth from when he was staying with his vet grandpa. It was a tooth which had to be removed from an injured puma his grandpa trested, and D'angelo got it as a gift π The crystal's on Jun's necklace are from the Hidden world, she found them pretty and they remind her of Wu and Wei)
I want to start by saying: The Freak Circus is a game with mature themes. Incase I happen to post anything of that nature related to it, the post will ofc include the appropriate disclaimers. This one's completely SFW though π
Yeah so I fell down a new rabbithole and discovered a certain dating sim.. π
Anyway can't throw a green character, who uses sarcasm and being a jerk to avoid dealing with their emotions and issues like abandoment issues or self-loathing at me, and NOT expect me to snatch them and put them in my pocket.
That being said Pierrot can move I'm here for the smug green gremlin π /lh
So here's Harlequin with my self insert Via as the MC. Get a job at the local cafe to help pay the bills as a poor university student, they said. It'll be chill, they said π /lh

Star Stable Online is a game I've played for- quite literally half my life. The newest area added to the game, Marchenghast, is my medieval fantasy dreams come true β¨οΈ
The knowledge that dragons existed (and still do) on Jorvik is one of my favourite pieces of lore, and I hope someday we'll get to meet an adult dragon in-game, that'd be awesome π
In the meanwhile, here's me compensating with my player character/self insert with her baby dragon all grown up. This was a fun piece to work on and I tried not to take too much stress over the scenery, but overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out β¨οΈ
I saw King of The Monsters when I got it for my 18th birthday on 2022. It was my first proper look into kaiju-related media (which tbf is still very small), and my favourite giant critter was then, and has been since, Rodan! Love the silly fire bird π
ANYWAY HEARING ABOUT HIM FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE KOTM IS SUCH A JOY and inspired me to draw him and my kaiju oc Calvaria (big bird known for raising devastating sandstorms in her wake and believed in ancient tales to be the creature who created deserts across the globe. She was snoozing under a pyramid, buried deep in desert sands, until waking up in KOTM) for the first time in a long while π¦βπ₯ (I've always wanted to use that emoji /lh)
Friends would be a strong word, but enemies would imply she gives any sort of credit to Rodan, soo let's just say they squabble a lot π /lh
