- This 15th-century illumination from the Chansonnier Cordiforme depicts the allegorical figure of Fortune balancing on a wheel. The figure is split visually to represent both angelic prosperity and dark adversity. She holds a mirror in one hand, often interpreted as a symbol of vanity or reflection, and a sword, suggesting divine justice or misfortune.
The image originates from a heart-shaped manuscript of French and Italian love songs compiled around 1470–1475
