““The best lesson which we get from the tragedy of Karbala is that Husayn and his followers were the rigid believers of God, they illustrated that numerical superiority does not count when it comes to truth and falsehood. The victory of Husayn despite his minority marvels me.”

When people truly love each other, they experience far more than just a mutual need for each other’s company and consolation. In—or through and because of—their relationship with each other they become different people: they become more than their everyday selves; they become more alive, more understanding, more abiding, more enduring, more patient, more courageous. They become better people. They are made over into new beings. They are transformed by the power of their love.

On bad days I just held onto the thinning rope. The rope was poetry.

The planet does not need more successful people. But it does desperately need more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers, and lovers of every kind. It needs people who live well in their places, people of moral courage willing to join the fight to make the world habitable and humane. And this has little to do with success as we have defined it.

The opposite of anxiety is not calmness, it is desire. Anxiety and desire are two, often conflicting, orientations to the unknown. Both are tilted toward the future. Desire implies a willingness, or a need, to engage this unknown, while anxiety suggests a fear of it. Desire takes one out of oneself, into the possibility of relationship, but it also takes one deeper into oneself. Anxiety turns one back on oneself, but only onto the self that is already known. There is nothing mysterious about the anxious state; it leaves one teetering in an untenable and all too familiar isolation. There is rarely desire without some associated anxiety: We seem to be wired to have apprehension about that which we cannot control, so in this way, the two are not really complete opposites. But desire gives one a reason to tolerate anxiety and a willingness to push through it.

“Lessons I learnt this year. #1 Don’t make home out of people. They leave, they leave all the frigging time. Save your heart from the sorrows, be independent and put yourself first. Self love is not selfish. #2 Dreams do come true after all but that doesn’t mean you can sit still and do nothing. You have to work your ass off for it then it’ll surely come your way. #3 Friendship doesn’t fill the gas tank. Not gonna elaborate on this, well all know this! #4 Love yourself. Buy that dress even though it comes with a hefty price tag, read that book that you have in your shelf for the longest time, wear make up , paint your face as your heart desires, sleep for 12 hours , sleep the whole weekend away, sleep for 1 hour if that’s what you want. This is your life, you can’t let people dictate what’s supposed to be yours.”
