- when they make eye contact with me instead of focusing their attention onto their phone/laptop/tablet/alternative distraction - when they truly think about their answer to a question i ask - when they respond with either an open-ended response (something other than just “yes” or “no”) or another question to keep things flowing - body language that says “i want to engage in this conversation”
