If I had a nickel for every time I initially disliked a witty, self-isolating blond prince with purple eyes and the ability to see the future for his unbecoming behavior towards the MCs, only to later ruminate and realize the nature of his powers make it so he never feels secure in the present moment and how his uncontested inhibitions lead him to indulge the worst version of himself while turning his scrutiny outwards to those whose actions—no matter how well-meaning, or noble, or unintentional—result in the future they, in their pursuit to avoid it, brought about, which greatly endears me to his character, not only as a force guiding the story, but as a perspective separate to the protagonists’; someone who Knows but does not/is not willing to Think about the apotheosis beyond the protag’s involvement because doing so amplifies both the agonies and shortcomings of his abilities…
…I’d have two nickels.

"i want them to make each other worse" i want them to have an impact on each other that's hard to define as objectively good or bad but is still sure to change the trajectory of their lives and alter their very being on a fundamental level forever

LAST CHRISTMAS FLAMBERT
Based on @/mitraavrs lovely art on Instagram :3
Robert in these skinny (slutty) little 90s style dad glasses. thats it thats the post
PLEASE SEE MY VISION
I see your vision. I almost died putting this together.
I do not possess the skills nor the time to acquire them, but methinks an edit involving Robert’s final confrontation with Shroud/Elliot and EPIC’s ‘Six-Hundred Strike’ would hit hard. Most ESPECIALLY the part where Odysseus is kebab-ing Poseidon (“How does it feel to be helpless? How does it feel to know pain?…Look what you’ve turned me into! Look what we’ve become!”).
Statement: Robert needs glasses.
Reasoning: He spent 15 years fighting with nothing but the mech’s sensors and screens to guide him. We can assume he’d patrol almost every day with minimal breaks. Cut to his time as a dispatcher, Robert realizes the stress of the job or the Z-Team’s very existence aren’t entirely to blame for his all-too-frequent tension headaches. Scrutinizing a screen for listless hours at a time has side effects—who knew?
Once his 90-day probation is up, Chase drags him to get his eyes checked. It'd been a decade since his last check-up. He does the Letter Test with a severity his new optometrist has never seen before. For his efforts, he gets a lollipop and a dual diagnosis of astigmatism and far-sightedness.
Why hadn’t this been addressed sooner? Likely because prolonged hypervigilance has a way of applying the Landlord Special on non-fatal issues to keep from the burden of acknowledging them. Even if Robert wanted to, he wouldn’t have been able to afford prescription lenses in a fitted frame (luckily for him, SDN’s health insurance includes optical).
They spent four hours in the glasses shop, with Chase shoving frames onto Robert’s face in the pursuit of something that was neither pretentious nor dweeb-ish; something that got the job done while also doing justice to his boy’s face shape and beautiful brown peepers.
Now, onto the important part: Robert looks good in glasses. Very good. Too good.
The team actually shuts up when Robert tells them to—not because they actually want to hear the spur-of-the-moment speech he has for them, but because those rectangular wire frames are working wonders on the usual back-talkers. Every glare carries more weight, his eyes magnified to where they can see every hue of brown and that slight speckling of gold they never noticed before, complementing the existentialist despair seated in his eyebags.
Everyone takes their turn cracking glasses puns during their shift at Robert’s expense, with the occasional but expected HR-violating flirtation. (As if the department needed any more reasons to stuff him in a locker.)
At the end of the day, Robert’s just glad the headaches are finally subsiding. It’s an added bonus that he can see his darling Beef better, and appreciate his oblong charm in higher resolution.

Fic Idea That I Don't Think I'll Get Around To But I'm Telling People About It Anyway.
I return with more Dispatch-related rambling:
Coupé knits in her free time. It’s a hobby she picked up behind bars as a way to quell the itch for poking things, clear her mind and keep herself busy. She’s not great at it, but she enjoys the challenge practice brings. Many a haphazardly-lined scarf she has made, all of which she gifts to Punch Up for him to wear during the winter, which he happily does—he’s never had the heart to tell her he can hardly feel the cold, but the sentiment warms him anyway.
Coop’s magnum-opus in the making is a buttoned sweater for Punch, tailored to his proportions. So far, the biggest issue is figuring out his wingspan from iron-sights alone (she could just ask, but think of the mystique she’d be risking) and redoing the same section of sleeve because the cuffs are uneven, or there’s a random pucker between rows. She’s biding her time for when Robert sends her to assist an elderly lady so she can glean some necessary intel (what the difference between a warp and weft knit is, or what all those BOR, CO, EON abbreviations are on about, seriously what are those—) from the sage wisdom of a soft-spoken cat lady with enough yarn spools to start an enterprise out of her living room.
I am fully convinced Robert was a stage manager in high school. It’d explain why he’s so buoyant to the team’s insults and disobedience—it’s nothing compared to what a theatre production incurs upon a person. Those eyebags were forged in the trenches of Tech Week, with leads still calling for lines and the director giving the ‘We Don’t Have a Show’ speech for the third time that week.
Don’t ask him to do a mic check, or annotate a script with blocking and cues, or send him to tell a vitriolic group of actors to be quiet backstage on opening night. He’ll take managing a group of ex-villains any day of the week. It isn’t even that different, when you count the importance of performance on calls, coupled with the team’s strong personalities often jeopardizing the success of said calls.
At least this time, he’s got an incentive greater than a pizza party keeping him going.
