Can I just say how much I love the implications here? Harley and Ivy are known public figures. People know who they are, and recognize them. And this kid knows that, despite being violent criminals, they’re safe enough to go to for protection. Ivy is dead certain that the Batfamily will be okay with them intervening to protect a kid. That has some intersting implications - either she knows damn well where the lines lie and that this is overriding enough to get her a pass, or (more likely, given the first bit) this has come up before.

listen…… the degree to which Mr. Darcy recognised and understood the incriminations on his character implicit in Elizabeth’s uncompromising rejection of him is commendable, which is why credit must go to him for reflecting so profoundly on his conduct and for deciding to reform himself. he even resisted the advantage of Elizabeth’s revision of her opinion of him, asserting that her “retrospections must be so totally void of reproach, that the contentment arising from them, is not of philosphy, but what is much better, of ignorance.” he’s calling this retroactive rose-tinting an act of benevolence and complacency, implying that he’s undeserving of such magnanimity. and then he goes on to communicate the conviction that he “ought not to be repelled” by painful recollections of his past behaviour, which demonstrates a willingness, and determination, to confront his flaws, thus signaling to both Elizabeth and the reader his commitment to shouldering the responsibility of self-reflection. and then, as if this strikingly chastened attitude isn’t already convincing enough, he proceeds to explain, not excuse, the defects of his character as a product of undisciplined upbringing. and then, to render his character transformation almost entirely robust, he expresses his gratitude to Elizabeth for having been the one who activated in him this movement towards a reshaped self. his pronouncement––“By you, I was properly humbled”––resonates because narratively, it carries the personal and literary significance of his character reformation. it’s the point at which he articulates the cause and effect of his transformation, and in so doing crystallises the novel’s critical subversion of entrenched patriarchal standards for men’s conduct in romantic relationships. its narrative weight is propelled by the culmination of his “inexpressibly painful” reflections, which are now relieved in a moment of self-realisation. 

remember in Beauty and the Beast how the opening monologue is like “who could ever learn to love….a bEaST” lol imagine being Disney now seeing all y'all thirsty ass monster fuckers on tumblr dot com and realizing exactly how wrong they were on that

fandom in the 1800s was you and your squad of ladies who got together weekly and did embroidery and talked about books you read. imagine the ship wars between lizzie/wickham and lizzie/darcy before everyone got up to the bit in the book where you find out what he did. id throw my knitting needles at my girl margery for suggesting lickham was endgame when CLEARLY its larcy all the way!! clearly!! imagine the bloodshed. the drama. when you get to the end of the book and you all make margery stand up and apologise to the group for having such awful opinions… smh

Pride and Prejudice is a genuinely refreshing read despite it being, or perhaps because it was written over 200 years ago. Jane Austen had the ambition to pursue a relationship dynamic unprecedented in substance and quality in the genre and she clearly wrote with purpose and intent. like, get on her level lmao
