I am at a point in my life where I am afraid to reach out to people. I don’t want to bother anyone. Everyone is busy and dealing with their own things. I am so loved but feel so lonely.

Guesss who got married over the weekend?!
“I always sat in the first row. I always had the highest rank in class. I wanted to be a teacher, just like my teachers. But when it was time to enroll in grade seven, my mother told me we couldn’t afford it. I cried and begged but she just stayed silent. My teachers were so sad that they offered to pay half of the tuition. But it wasn’t enough because we’d still have to pay for the books and exams. So my mother made me understand that school was not in my luck. I’m still seventeen, but now I’m married and I work as a maid for a family. I wash their clothes, wash their dishes, clean their bathroom. Their house is near a school. So every morning I have to watch the children walk by in their uniforms.” (Dhaka, Bangladesh)

Project Dhee, a bold initiative by the Boys of Bangladesh
The New York Times: The advocacy organization aims to raise awareness around LGBTQ rights, gender, and sexuality in the country... the project is intended to educate the public about gender, sexual orientation, and relationships by giving the complex issues a human, relatable face. And the decision to make the central character female was no accident. "The reason why we chose a female character was to drive home a point,” Ahmed says. “Bangladesh is a male dominated country where women’s sexuality and desire is completely ignored by the majority. Homosexual women are completely invisible from the scenario. We created Dhee, which is a very unisex name, as a woman because we wanted her to become a voice that is extremely difficult to hear. We hope people will see her from a gender-neutral perspective because, at the end of the day, her feelings are very human.” http://nytlive.nytimes.com/womenintheworld/2015/09/22/meet-dhee-bangladeshs-first-lesbian-comic-strip-character/
Photographer Gazi Nafis Ahmed spent a year with his subjects before taking these portraits – ‘I want them to express themselves freely,’ he says, as they share their own stories
Amar bangla bala nai. Loosely translated, that means, I do not speak my mother tongue well. But my dear Bangla, if I knew you better, I can only imagine the stories we could tell. You see, My mother tongue does not come easily to me, and in a world where west is best, I am scared that I am losing my identity. My mother says speak, and I say how? when the only time I speak it is when my grandma is around. When I can’t have conversations with her because I run out of words, when Bengali is a noose, and English is a curse. I do not speak my mother tongue well, so I am always tongue tied, bilingual, no I’m a bystander, and it’s not as though I don’t try. You see the problem is bigger than me, it’s how my parents were told to talk English, Whenever they tried to speak, because this is the west, and that’s how it’s supposed to be. It’s how they taught me English first, out of fear of alienation, How they covered our red and green flag, with the flag of a fish and chip nation. And don’t get me wrong, I love English as much as you, but my mother tongue is calling me, and I don’t know what to do. I’m slowly learning, like a child exploring her vocal cords, coaxing out the sounds, that will soon form coherent words. Amar bangla bala nai. I do not speak my mother tongue well, but I am learning, and when I do, Imagine the stories we could tell.

you are the most beautiful Bengali girl I have met. You should go on a beauty pageant and represent BD.
ahaha thank you :)
For those who can’t read Bangla.
Part of the comic strip DHEE translated by me (I tried my best, sorry if there are any mistakes). The BoB (Boys of Bangladesh) is truly doing an amazing job for the LGBT movement in Bangladesh.
