e.e. cummings’ poem “[anyone lived in a pretty how town]” takes on a whole new perspective when presented aurally by him, versus when one reads it. Its tone is taken from being cheerful and nursery rhyme-like to being long, and dragged out. This shows the difference of the impact texts can have on their audience when presented in different tones and rhythms.

The use of the refrain “Nevermore” almost reminds the narrator of Lenore, due to the similar rhyme of both words. I feel like this word is truly what draws him into madness, as it is constantly reminding him of her, but also stating that they will never again be together.

When studying the Raven, I realized that a deeper meaning lied beneath the conflict in the poem, displaying how the darkness of the raven is representational of the emptiness he is experiencing in his life as a result of the loss of his beloved, Lenore.

Through relating the story of Indian women to poetry, Deerchild shows that just as poetry is often overlooked as a writing form, the missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada are often overlooked as well.

This quote from the second line in the Introduction of Di Brandt’s “This The Land that I love” shows how our feet mark our impression in the land and the use of the word hot shows how we don’t walk lifelessly along it, but rather we notice the impact our land has on us. This land is not ours to take, but rather, an entity which must sustain all of us.
