so curious here how do you feel about arkham nightwing, there’s sort of a distinction between city and knight(arkham knight not gotham knight), as city nightwing implies more of a 80s-90s troubled relationship with bruce and has a different design, while knight nightwing(god that reads stupid) seems to be retconned as having little to any difficulties with bruce beside leaving in the first place
Omg I haven't actually played those two!!! I'm still stuck on a killer croc section in the first game (I'm bad at video games) ahshdhdh though I was enjoying it a lot so I will pick it back up when I have the time and feel like getting my ass handed to me
But like design wise arkham city nightwing is too clunky like what are those weird pauldrons.... his range of motion.... arkham knight design HELLOO what is that mask... how does he MOVE??? why do they insist on padding him up like that.... (gotham knights designs also leave a lot 2 be desired)
Truly I am only ever happy if he is in a flimsy ass catsuit w the fingerstripes <3
Wrt their relationship i like Dick and Bruce having friction. I know a lot of people are more enamored by their golden age sort of dynamic, or pre crisis on infinite earths, and I can see how that sort of tender mutual respect and open communication is compelling as in how they are two pieces of a whole and they work v well off one another, and y know just how much that love and respect bleeds through in a more up front way, and how that era of their relationship affords Dick a lot more agency... it is compelling!!!
However not 2 b contrarian I prefer their relationship more fraught. I tend to rationalise it in my mind as a sort of natural evolution of their relationship, as in the Early Golden days things are mostly fine tho i think Bruces style of communication + Dicks interpretation of it isnt perfect, and that it clashes a lot w the foundation John and Mary laid. Like they're best friends they're having adventures they're having FUN they're equals and partners but Dick is still a child lol w his own baggage and Bruce is too young to know what he's doing. Either way it's the good old days...
Slowly over time tho cracks form... Dick gets older and wants more freedom, starts becoming his own man and Bruce (as proud as he is) also can't handle the feeling that he's losing him, and more than that losing the sweet halcyon days > their communication breaks down and all the friction and drama stems from deep deep love and respect, but not in a way either of them can translate or interpret > also a lot of FEAR , particularly after the two face incident, ESPECIALLY if you want to consider the gunshot and subsequent firing as canon (personally I like to smash all 3 nw origins together) > i.e. Dick is mortal and still very much young, no matter how remarkable he is, creating this push and pull that always happens between teenagers and their guardians.
it all kinda breaks down especially after Jason's death which I think is where Bruce shifts most dramatically. (And still, Dick remembers the good old days through rose tinted glasses.)
Idk I like how, for two people who understand each other better than ANYONE, miscommunication still happens > they have both internalised cognitive schemas that are like matter and antimatter to one another. Love doesn't make it better necessarily, it kind of makes it worse, and STILL at the end of the day they will always be Batman and Robin at their core.
Does that make sense lol?? Did it answer your question????
Basically I love them having dramaaaaa but that drama is only possible in the first place because they love and respect and adore each other so so much.
