' she plays along , eases her grip on his body now that she finally has his undivided attention , blows a kiss to the girl scurrying away in search of someone new to take her home in mock victory . ' that's what i thought ! though i don't really think the murderer hangs out at the club . . . plus , i'm way too cute to get killed . '

even if he's slightly annoyed at the situation, denver learned a long time ago that a night by honor's side is worth more than a million nights with somebody else. he's not immune to her charms, no matter how hard he wants to pretend he is, " no, of course not. you're like a walking chastity belt " the male jokes- kind of. with an arm firmly placed on her waist, they find their way to the dance floor. swaying to the beat of a song he doesn't recognize, denver tilts his head in amusement, " really? i feel like a pretty little thing like you can be plucked away no problem. not that i'll ever let that happen, of course, i'm your knight in shining armor, " his words are as calm as they are honest, even if he has a lousy sense of self-preservation, there's nothing he wouldn't do to make sure the girl in front of him stays out of harm's way, " you are being careful, right ? locking doors, stranger danger, and all that crap ? " 

       if  you  were  going  to  murder  someone  then  hazel  would  have  probably  been  a  great  target  ,  she  didn’t  have  any  awareness  of  safety  ,  striding  up  to  any  person  that  was  around  and  engaging  with  them  freely  .  after  noticing  a  huge  billboard  that  had  been  erected  with  a  photograph  on  of  some  lipstick  ,  she  swings  around  ,  grabbing  the  first  person  that  she  sees  ,  friend  or  foe   “  oh  my  god  !  look  at  that  .  i’m  totally  going  to  work  with  them  .  that  looks  so  good  ,  “  as  if  they  too  would  be  an  expert  on  the  subject  ,  her  grip  still  tight  on  their  arm  without  her  even  realising  .  “  right  ?  it  looks  amazing  ,  right  ?  “  she’s  jumping  up  and  down  on  the  spot  ,  recent  burglaries  a  million  miles  from  her  mind  ,  dior  earrings  still  firmly  in  her  ears  and  not  a  single  family  heirloom  in  her  history  .  

with a million things running through his mind- the forefront occupied by the recent string of burglaries, denver walks through the once peaceful atherton streets with caution. or as much caution as he allows himself to have, too stubborn to execute safety precautions because no thief is allowed to disturb the peace in his neighborhood. brown eyes are glued to a cellphone, catching up on emails he meant to answer weeks prior until he feels his heart sink to his stomach, "fuck ! " he yelps. the sensation of being pulled is enough to drain the color from his face until he realizes who is the one grabbing him, "you can't do shit like that, i almost knocked you out," a light chuckle follows his words as his gaze lands on the billboard. confused yet fully amused by hazel's declaration, denver leans into her side, "it looks.... great" it comes out as a question, unsure of what the appropriate response would be, "they'd be crazy not to hire you. just like you are walking alone so late at night." 

' but do you really want to leave me here all alone ?? ' lips will curl into a pout , faded make up making her look flushed , almost sincere in her concern . ' that creep's been staring at me all night and you want to leave me ?? i thought you were better than that . '

once again he finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place- the rock being his desire to get laid by a girl at the bar, and the hard place being honor and her natural ability to scare off anyone that comes near him. denver bites the inside of his cheek to suppress a laugh before speaking,  " you are the worst wingwoman in the world, you know that ? " he throws a gesture to the blonde he was previously with so she can find herself someone more available. denver's eyes dart between honor's iron grip on his sides and her eyes before raising a brow, " just remember that if you break me, you have to buy me. and i'm very expensive. " with his arm now wrapped around her, he orders another round of drinks. if she won't let him go home with a stranger he might as well play the part of her arm candy, " i wouldn't leave you -- not with a murderer running around." 

“ can you believe someone was in my house . touching my private things . ” frowning as what she said finally filtered through her brain , “ not my underwear … unless … oh my god , do you think they touched my underwear ? ” hand pressed to her chest as she stared at the ground in wide eyed horror . 

" i'd be more concerned about them getting past security " the male replies, handing her a tray of assorted hors d'oeuvres, all crafted by him earlier that evening, " besides, if they did touch it, i'm sure it's being sold on ebay, " denver leans against the counter and offers her a dismissive hand gesture in an attempt to ease her nerves, " now, try the cheese tart and tell me what you think."
