the very short version is basically this:

first, if you don't know: danmei is a genre of chinese literature about gay romance, often in historical fiction settings (but not always). generally contains at least suggestive content if not erotic material. frequently written by and for women and posted online as web novels. if you know what yaoi is, you should pretty much immediately understand what danmei is.

what's happening: some parts of the chinese government (? unclear on the details of this as a westerner) are cracking down on "obscene content", which of course means "stories about gay people" and "porn" in equal measure. dozens of writers--many of them young, poor, female, and/or LGBT--have been arrested, questioned, humiliated, and/or fined for their works. works that are, again, simply about men falling in love and having sex, essentially.

i wish i could post some sort of call to action here, but i don't know what to do. still, i think it's important that people know what's happening and like i said, there's not a ton of info on it for english speakers.

the "milkman" is a common figure in stories depicting a woman's infidelity and adulterous affair.

this implies that the ability to provide milk would both decrease the likelihood of a man abandoning his wife and children, as it would eliminate the need for leaving to get milk AND would secure that man's marriage, as his wife would have no need to seek milk from an extraneous source.

therefore, all men should produce milk, through various means such as:

- being a cow

- being an almond

- being a woman

- being a coconut

- being in the omegaverse

- being an oat
