And then Robin’s just over there like:

if robin ends up with vickie i WILL lose it. i’m cool with ronance or whatever other ship but rovickie felt so forced in season 4. i’m a lesbian so obviously i watch a lot of lesbian media and the whole thing feels too cliche and like “we aren’t 100% sure how to write this so let’s just copy everything else”. and i know, “oh but vickie only got like 10 minutes of screentime!” maybe, but that 10 minutes said a LOT about the direction her and robin’s relationship would be going in.

1. vickie is basically a carbon copy of robin. you can say she isn’t but it’s right the freak in front of you. they even look similar. they both have the same mannerisms, they both are in band, they both are a bit awkward, they have the same habit of talking a lot; the way that vickie talks about her boyfriend at the end of season 4 to robin is soooo straight out of robin’s playbook of speaking. it’s SO robin. vickie is EXACTLY like robin. i’ve noticed this tends to be a pattern in queer media, especially with lesbians, there tends to be less lesbian rep than gay men, and typically when there IS lesbian rep it feels pretty close to this, with copies of each other.

2. their relationship is SOOOOOO CLICHE I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH OH MY GOD. that whole “girl who’s aware of her sexuality” x “girl who’s closeted/doesnt know with a boyfriend”. it’s sooo cliche. and ykw fine, i know a lot of stranger things is built off cliches, but this goes back to it feeling like the forced lesbian representation i formerly said. “we can’t think of anything else.” the way rovickie feels to me is that it’s every lesbian movie/show stereotype forced into their 10 minutes of screentime.

but hey maybe i’m crashing out over nothing!
