eric kripke’s lame ass cope is not going to absolve the blatant abandonment of a massive set up to events in the story for no good reason. unless somehow this show sets up a bunch of narrative foreshadowing to marie’s existence and sets up an entire new show w the gen v characters then i rlly don’t want to hear it.

1) what happened to hughie was rape, no questions about it, and the show REFUSING to treat it like that and having annie not apologize for her initial reaction, as well as the awful std comment that was a terrible attempt at a joke (that WAS ooc idgaf), has given people a “reason” to not like annie when she was already overhated by the fandom

2) the trauma that annie went through in the experience has become summarily erased by how poorly it was handled because now any attempt at discussing the nuance of the situation is overshadowed by the shit ass narrative

3) bringing it up in this season in a ONE OFF LINE where they REFUSE to call it rape as if they ever cared about the impact on hughie, where they call annie a FUCKING BITCH (i get that it was because of the spores, but the boys fandom hates women so rlly any time smth like this happens it pisses me off), and then put the fact that they DIDN’T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY onto ANNIE as if it was an intentional character choice is ridiculously irresponsible and unfair.

i’m not going to be cute about it: you can like whatever you want, but pretending at all that “femme robin” is representation in some way that we have to respect and understand is genuinely ridiculous. the duffer brothers put an embarrassingly small amount of thought into robin as a lesbian, let alone as a butch or a femme, which have so much more history than “girl who wears a frilly shirt” !

a lot of butch lesbians looked at robin and saw themselves in her, and it is completely okay to express disappointment that the duffer brothers, who EVERYONE AGREES screwed her character on the representation front, seemed to have gotten rid of that aspect of her character, which was explicitly drawn attention to in s4.

to pretend that this “change” is something that is at all important or integral to who robin is as a character is fucking ridiculous! can you point to the screen and show me where there was any build up or movement or ANYTHINGGG to imply that this was a character moment, beyond baffling costume design, anywhere in the show??

robin who is immediately so smitten… an omega who doesn’t look at her with this expectation, like they’re waiting for her to do something stupid or wrong. instead nancy looks at her with a different kind of expectation, constantly waiting for what robin has to say next, not waiting for her to direct, but to share, honestly engrossed in whatever little rant she ends up on.
