I grew up in Australia so I was raised to be very cautious of insects, but i see your love of bugs and i cant help but smile. Its actually helped me be a little bit more on ease around bugs nowadays. (No longer in Australia)
According to Sting of the Wild, the writer spent his whole career getting stung by insects of the North American southwest including the tarantula hawks and velvet ants, and went on to feel the pain of the infamous bullet ant of central/south America.
Apparently the most painful sting in Australia belongs to the bull ant, and it was a pretty anticlimactic experience, about as or slightly less painful than a honeybee's sting.
This is the same poetic Schmidt behind the Schmidt sting scale, which was going around a minute ago for its colorful description of stinging sensations, ranging from "almost pleasant, a lover just bit your earlobe a little too hard" (grade 1, a sweat bee), to "Torture. Fun book! Not far in but definitely living up to expectations. A couple chapters in he wonders why birds eat honeybee drones but not worker honeybees, so he eats a raw honeybee, and concludes it's because worker bees taste bad.

My kids are still quite young (under school age), and I've been careful to try to make sure they only have kind role models. Once you start noticing how the incapacity to handle discomfort affects how people live their lives it's actually pretty shocking how it ruins pretty much every conceivable aspect of existence. Interpersonal relationships, romantic and platonic. Career and education opportunities. Your politics Your willingness to go anywhere. The kind of food you eat. The kind of art you expose yourself to and your ability to read it. It's never just one thing, it touches everything, and once you notice it it's like suddenly being able to see germs or something. Just this horrific catastrophe people look at you askance for screaming about. As I grow older and see what became of my friends and peers who could not learn to handle discomfort, the more I'm like. This is a genuine societal issue
Increasing my discomfort tolerance has also been one of the greatest assets to improving my mental health.
