I’m a very forgetful person. I forget what day it is, what my plans are for the week, I forget simple daily tasks. But somehow, I can’t, and don’t think I’ll forget how it feels to trace your skin, I don’t think I’ll forget the outline of your face, or the look in your eyes when you smile. I won’t ever forget you, my safety. My calm.

We’re all seeking that special person who is right for us. But if you’ve been through enough relationships, you begin to suspect there’s no right person, just different flavors of wrong. Why is this? Because you yourself are wrong in some way, and you seek out partners who are wrong in some complementary way. But it takes a lot of living to grow fully into your own wrongness. And it isn’t until you finally run up against your deepest demons, your unsolvable problems—the ones that make you truly who you are—that we’re ready to find a lifelong mate. Only then do you finally know what you’re looking for. You’re looking for the wrong person. But not just any wrong person: the right wrong person—someone you lovingly gaze upon and think, This is the problem I want to have.

If we were a bit more tolerant of each other’s weaknesses, we’d be less alone. Don’t you think? I know one can live alone, but…stay. For both of us. For you and me. Give us that chance.

One cannot be deeply responsive to the world without being saddened very often.

I love the ground under his feet, and the air over his head, and everything he touches and every word he says. I love all his looks, and all his actions and him entirely and all together.

There is no shame in being hungry for another person. There is no shame in wanting very much to share your life with somebody.
