Caption This? These 2 siblings sat on a well camouflaged mound and stalked the Eland which grazed. We parked our cruiser at a good distance between the cat and the herb, anticipating big action. A local safari vehicle came in, the tourists not to wild friendly started to show their joy of watching the big cat in loud voices. The elands made a note of the commotion and were quick to realise the tourists were there for the Cat and not them. They made a dash out of the lions sight and disappeared into the Savannah. Remembering my first cheetah hunt at the mara in 2018. This picture is a throwback to Oct 2018. I had spent 3 days in the Mara but hadn't spent enough time with the cheetahs. Around noon en route towards the sand river, we found Amani and the cub. My Maasai was convinced a hunt was not on as the gazelle at the distance had made note of the predator. While they sat on the mound and checked the territory Amani made a sudden dash down the hill. The thrill of seeing a cheetah in full motion sent shivers through me. Amani had given it her best sprint and soon a tommy gazelle lay in front of her. A few small yelps and the cub found her mother. They took turns watching out for the other predators and scavengers and dug onto the meat, at one point it felt they had walked long and starved a couple of days. We found them again towards the evening content and sleeping and the vultures had begun their circles. A few days later the news came that the cub was killed by the hyenas. Wildlife is savage. We followed this big bull all after noon, Elephant herds are purely matriarchal in nature. Cape teal are one of the few species of dabbling ducks that actually dive. They are capable of swimming underwater with their wings closed like other true diving ducks.
