yep! one of my biggest pet peeves in the way people talk about taylor’s career is they never mention her spending her younger years grinding for a shot at this and then spending years making sure she rightfully earned that shot. people think she just appeared out of thin air with a successful career but no, everything she has was made by her work ethic, a work ethic she’s had since before she was 12.
Like her debut album didn’t just drop out of thin air. She worked really hard to put it out against all odds.

You created the Toy Story musical world, and we are lucky to get to live in it.

sorry, I’ll never get over people being like “ugh, she’s writing about high school AGAIN?” after listening to (presumably, the first 45 seconds of) ruin the friendship. the second hand embarrassment was unbearable.
and it’s like….first of all, if you genuinely can’t stand the occasional reference to high school, then taylor swift is probably not the songwriter for you. go listen to someone cooler and edgier and get out of my house. second of all, god forbid an adult woman reflect on her friend who died tragically young.
taylor’s brand of promo is so funny because first she edges you for months to the point where you just get hopeless and then, out of nowhere, she hits you with sign after sign until you’re so overstimulated that you’re about to throw up

in other pop culture things i'm going to be a grump about I do find olivia rodrigo's current PR to be annoying, even if it is effective. like she's purposefully creating and extending controversies for publicity which sure, that's a method, and i'm not saying it's not working, but I don't think it then makes people misogynistic or whatever to find this particular style of PR to be offputting. like she could have relatively quickly shut down the babydoll dresses thing and the taylor thing but she keeps it alive, which to me is getting people talking about her, sure, but not her work at all, which just feels kind cheap. like it's this consistent thread throughout her rollouts of it seeming like she and her team aren't confident in the work she's putting out enough to just let it speak for itself so she has to keep these controversies - "ooo look taylor swift loves me! sabrina carpenter was mean to me! ooo actually maybe taylor swift hates me! maybe you're the pedophile!" - swirling around instead of redirecting back to the album itself
I just read that ridiculous thread of Taylor absorbing personalities since 2017 and I kid you not the range of albums she’s released while with Joe ALONE disproves this absolute bs jdjdkdjd. Nothing in her approach changed since she started her career, the only diff is more people became invested and obsessed with any media that allows them to create their own content and conspire.
