Since this hella old rant of mine is getting a sudden second wind, it’s as good a time as any to bring up something that has been bothering me for a while.

Tying in to the issue of the blatant and inexplicable lack of Sandor appearances in character analyses & metas about Sansa, there seems to be this pervasive attitude in the fandom that simply acknowledging Sansa & Sandor’s relationship/connection/interactions is tantamount to outing yourself as a “shipper”. And that is in turn treated like something one ought to feel “guilty” about. Like, I have actually seen non-shipper metaists feel the need to include a proviso to the effect of “I don’t ship them, but…” before they can proceed to discuss their relationship. On the flip side, I have seen metaists who DO ship them make apologetic statements like “this might sound shippy, but…” before making perfectly legitimate points! 

WHYYYYYYYYY.

I don’t see this trend with ANY other characters or relationships in this story! Like, do you have to be a “shipper” to acknowledge the effect Jaime has on Brienne (and vice versa)? Is it “shippy” to discuss the relationship between Arya and Gendry? If I talk about Jorah’s impact on Dany, does that automatically mean I “ship” them? 

Why is the topic of SanSan even considered “shippy” at all when their relationship is already canon?? Whether you interpret it as “romantic” or not is beside the point – the relationship exists. And it is IMPORTANT. For BOTH characters. (It’s pretty much the most fundamental and profound relationship that Sandor has in the books, and yet that is routinely ignored by HIS fanbase too.) People are “allowed” to discuss (AND ship) Sansa’s relationships with Tyrion and Littlefinger left and right even though there is FAR more textual support for Sansa’s relationship with Sandor. (I mean, ship her with those guys all you want, but you will never convince me that any legitimate textual evidence for it exists, sorry.) And yet, Sansa’s relationships with THEM aren’t subjected to the same sort of treatment and scorn as her relationship with Sandor. And don’t even try to play the age difference card with me either, because Littlefinger is older than Sandor and Tyrion is only 2 years younger.
