The vigilante grunted, and that time he felt the crack in his sides. His famous resilience was starting to break, but he could not give up. His fists clenched as he struggled to breathe in the suit’s iron grip, but those gray-violet eyes focused on the visor as he gritted his teeth.

He was not going to give up. And he wasn’t going to give in to the programming that was trying to override the man he knew.

“No. I’m not going to stop. Because no matter what that monster did to you, you’re still in there, Fenton. I know you’re still in there. That’s always what’s run the suit- not a computer. But Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera!”

▬▬▬ ☾☆      Della kept the smile on  her  face.  Best  not  to  falter  in  front  of  this  guy.  She  returned  Louie’s  hug;  that  was  only  furtherproof  to  her  that  there  was  something  very  wrong  here.  Nonetheless,  she’d  have  to  act  like  everything  was  normal.

Louie’s eyes brighten a few paces when his mom went along with it. still. He gives her a warm smile. “They’re home? Oh man. We’ll probably play death darts then. It’s a been a while since a good match. I’m.” He cut himself off. 

      “I was talking about how much I cry, but like, that works too.”

And that wasn’t a lie. Mickey wore his heart on his sleeve, and he was never secretive about how much he adored Donald. That was his best friend in the world, and he’d stuck with Mickey no matter what had happened- through the death of his parents to the disappearance of his uncle Roy. Even earlier still, when Mickey had really become Mickey.

But here they were, together like they always had been, and things felt more normal than ever. Smiling faintly, he leaned over, shoulder to shoulder with his best friend.

“I’d do it again any day, no question asked.”
