I think an important element in talking about the politics of fictional characters or entities is understanding that they live inside of a story written by someone with their own politics and if they want they can just transmogrify the world around them to make whatever political stance they want to be correct, correct. like you can't make the argument "actually x character has y stance" in a vacuum because the reality is that this character or whatever was written by someone with an agenda, conscious or not, and that this will result in artifacts in storytelling. storytelling isn't Depiction, it isn't a neutral conveyance of information (which doesn't really exist to begin with). it's the construction of a world to tell a specific story with specific cultural and political assumptions. as a stupid example you can say "but isn't the brotherhood of mutants trying to do a reverse-genocide against Homo sapiens" and the answer can be yes but that narrative point was written by someone who decided the brotherhood of mutants was meant to be a representation of something that they, the writer, consider equivalent or metaphorically salient enough to embody. who is the brotherhood of mutants supposed to represent? what goal might the author have in portraying them this way? what things about these groups might the author have taken for granted? come on now.

Tumblr is the reason why I have something I call the cashier test which is, if i told this to a random cashier at the grocery store, would they think you're crazy at best or at worst would they be warranted in leaping over the counter and beating the shit out of you. Karl Marx mpreg is crazy, but not beating the shit out of you crazy. The cashier will probably talk about you to their coworkers and it might even make their day. Telling someone they're complicit in their own oppression by working a minimum wage job at a grocery store makes them warranted in leaping over the counter to beat the shit out of you.
