#so a story about this #i didnt realize this was a thing when i lost my hearing #and therefore it was a BIG surprise when i started listening to music in my car and all of the sudden there were a lot of new sounds

Hi im HoH. I was mainstreamed my whole life and only knew one other deaf person (my uncle, who we have very little contact with). I feel incredibly inadequate in both communities. I'm not hearing enough and im not deaf enough. I cant sign, but I cant understand most people when theyre talking to me. I dont know what to do. I feel totally lost?

I think this is a problem that a lot of HoH people raised hearing relate to: not feeling like they belong to either community of people and not knowing where they fit in. But you are certainly welcomed in the deaf community. Being able to sign isn’t the only thing that Deaf people have in common, and not all HoH/deaf people sign. If it’s something you want to learn, there are resources available to do that. And you don’t have to choose one or the other. Do what’s best for you.
