its so frustrating how hes reduced to nothing but a 'strong guy' bc that characterization is soooo heavily a stereotype.
like he cant be smart because he grew up poor and so bruce as a rich guy must know better because those with power deserve it and those who dont have it just arent worthy or working hard enough, no matter that like jason says the system itself is broken and unfair, and the people on top are never incensiviced to change it for the better, including bruce because the whole reason it is possible for him to be batman is his privilige and access to huge wealth.
his violence is used as proof that hes unstable and unlogical, despite how the enviorment itself demands violent rulership maintained by fear because of the standard set by everyone else including and especially batman (and how still he manages to not rule by fear but by genuinely trying to improve gotham longterm because violence in the way batman utilises it (without any direct cause) will never work or fix anything.), his hatred for batman is seen as petty and childish, despite the fact that the reasons he is mad at him are pretty reasonable, because the mistakes leading to jasons death-- despite being used as a constant tool for self loathing by bruce-- have not incentivized any kind of change to prevent it from happening again, be it killing the joker or more largely, systematic overhaul (something that bruce does have the power to at least jumpstart because again hes filthy rich and holds massive political power bc of that even outside of the mask), and thats disregarding everything that continues to happen AFTER jason's resurrection because very little of the cruelty he is subjected to is in any way righteous, and also has jason constantly being depicted as unreasonable, mentally ill, childish, predatory, dumb and most of all someone who just needs guidance from the 'real' heros. and to be fair, jason is in no way perfect and does to an extend have an agenda in his vigilante work (proving batman wrong), but that is also true for like. literally every single vigilante that has ever existed.
His morals are gray but id argue they are more comprehensive and based in reality than bruces in a lot of ways.
bruce is a lonely guy who believes that beating what he deems as the 'scum of the earth' with violence will make him feel less shit about himself, hes antisocial, hes unempathetic but also prone to lash out in anger whenever something challenges him and his fragile worldview that is genuinely childish and naive because this guy spends all his time inside his big mansion alone with no one to reality check him, with his only contact with the not-billionares part of the civilian population being beating the shit out of them. he doesnt KNOW gotham, he has no connection to the everyday people, he doesnt have neighbors, he sees the worst of the city but he has not been part of the community that gets affected by that injustice, criminals and corruption ceases to exist to him once theyre in jail or not running anymore, any afteraffects or additional support is not 'his job', because bruce IS smart and he knows on some level that adressing the core issue of everything would mean full systematic overhaul, and also adressing that he is apart of the problem, and thats not as easy to fix as decking a few robbers everynight. and because he does not come into contact with the harm his dismissal causes, it is easier for him to make this decision and stick to his no-kill rule. its easy to justify inaction when the harm is just numbers and statistics.
jason IS apart of the community, has no problem getting things done by 'unjust' means and with the expense of his own conscience, and repesents all of batmans faults, both ideological and personal, and so both canon, and also fanon use any means nessecary (toxic masculinity, black and white moral consequences, cherry picking) to discredit red hood, because if you see jason as more than a violent criminal, you have to reevaluate the asumption that he doesnt deserve to be listened to as a vital perspective on a problem everyone is trying to solve, and that makes it reeeaaaly hard to justify the delibirate defacement others do to him with the excuse of 'moral righteousness'.
SO TLDR STOP REDUCING JASON TO A DUMB STRONG GUY THATS LIKE WHAT PEOPLE DO TO DEHUMANISE OTHERS AND I DONT RLY THINK ITS GOOD TO DO THAT EVEN IF ITS WITH A FICTIONAL GUY AND ALSO IT INHERENTLY MISUNDERSTANDS WHO JASON TODD IS AND REPESENTS AND ALSO MAKES DISCUSSION SO MUCH LESS FUN 😶😶😶😶😶 disagree with his choices if you want but dont just pretend he doesnt have an argument or a leg to stand on
