Lo'ak, shyly explaining to her that this strange gesture is how humans show affection, and that's just a thing his dad does with mom.

And Tsireya just laughs, seeing Lo'ak's slouched shoulders and red flushed face, and boops him in return.

One of my favourite headcanons is what if Spider was born earlier, soon after Jake's arrival. And Jake, well...

He knows what it's like to be abandoned pretty damn well. What it's like to be somone nobody wants around. And so he just... tries to be around.

He visits the kid in the medbay, even though nurses are not excited by his visits at first. They let him do it anyway, since he seems to be nearly the only one who can get the boy settled and not crying.

What would others think? I imagine the first to notice Jake's changing behaviour are Grace and Norm, of course. They're still working their way to each other, still getting used to work with a jarhead instead of a young PhD, and yet. This new side of Jake is suddenly diasarming for both scientists.

One day, Grace catches herself on watching a strange scene unfolding in front of her. The boy, Socorro's son. Cooing happily, being bounced on Jake's lap, his little hands wrapped around Jake's neck.

And Jake, wheeling himself with one hand like it's the most natural thing ever, his other palm supporting the kid's back, his lips curved in a light smile, and he's saying something Grace cannot hear from here.

Jake, with an orphan kid on his lap, smiling his dorky smile and managing to log something in his datapad with one hand, his voice soft and quiet, and Miles is making bubbles and little giggles.

Maybe, Grace thinks, this boy won't be orphan for long.

Just think about it. He and Tommy being a foster care kids, probably lost both parents at quite a young age. Considering the fact that by 22 yo Jake was a decorated vet and Tommy was PhD, the twins must've parted their ways early, too, to pursue their own careers. Especially, taking in consideration how different their choices were, and how Tommy and Jake probably weren't really close (Tommy being an ambitious PhD and participating in such an important project must have had some good funding or income, and yet we see Jake struggling to make ends meet and live in a box 2x2 meters, which suggests them living their lives separately from each other).

No sence of community. No sence of family, of real closeness and support.

And yet, what a father Jake is. Not perfect, but a good one definitely. He's a marine, war vet on Earth and technically on Pandora too, traumatised by abandonment, lose, being disabled and forced to leave behind every scrape of comfort and routine he had. And still, he's a good dad.

He cherishes every single one of his kids. He's emotionally available! maybe not fully, but with all what stated earlier, it's a big success. He shows up. He shows them affection, spends quality time (him playing with them in early flashbacks; the multiple implications that he taught them a lot of thingsb etc). Even during the war time, when his main focus is keeping everyone in his family alive, he still shows them how much he loves them. He also scolds them, yes, especially the boys, esp Lo'ak ('cuz that kid is giving him high blood pressure on daily basis), but you cannot make me believe he's a bad dad and doesn't care about any of his kids!

And that all, without literally any example. He never learned how a family was supposed to look like. Never had a proper example. Never was taught how to show his love and how important it is. And yet here he is. Cradling his kids' heads and telling them it's gonna be okay and looking at them like they're the most precious things in the whole universe.

And Healy just cannot hold back after all those years of being completely sure he wasn't made for that sort of thing and yet here he is

Lars' tall, unusually broad for an omega (so he's always slouching a bit) but soft all over like a teddy bear. Plus he's wearing layers all the time, flannel and cotton, and it makes him even softer and more squishy and fills Driver with unbearable wish to touch touch touch.

Though, he knows Lars doesn't like being touched, cannot bear it a second. And he respects it. He just looks at this gorgeous huge and warm and wholesome omega, who makes his mouth water. But he keeps to himself. Small gestures. Standing close enough to smell and yet not touching, never making Lars feel crowded.

And, oh God, eye contact. Lars, with his huge figure, always slouching and ducking and lowering his head to appear smaller and not to embarrass alphas around him, and then, there's Driver. He's not that short, but shorter than Lars, and he loves it, because it makes it easier for him to sneak a glance at Lars' face and find his eyes so that Lars won't hide from him.

Driver takes fancy to his new neighbor, school teacher, shy and clumsy, with glasses and suits and stupid t-shirts with unfunny jokes. He's not a talkative kind, but Grace talks a whole lot, and that is enough to get going whatever there's between them.

They mostly meet at laundry, and Ryland absentmindedly talks about how the weather ruined his suit; how his students shouted so loudly today that he had to apologies for the noise to other teachers; clumsily complements Driver's car; and asks him questions, so many little questions that do not oblige Driver for anything, but he answers anyway, and his own answers are slowly making for Ryland a path to his heart.

Basically the same as happens in the Drive, but less violent and Grace doesn't have a child (has dozens of students he can't stop yapping about). Driver helps a someone Ryland doesn't know about, gets hurt like at the end of the film, and Grace is here to patch him up, even though Driver's afraid that Grace would be horrified and disgusted by him. And Ryland is actually scared shitless, but also somehow adored by Driver's selfless notion, and just can't let this silly quite man suffer alone.

Grave just says "oh, boy" in tone he uses only with his students, and drags Driver into his flat, and grabs his face with his hands so so gently, making sure Driver is still here. And Driver cannot help it but finally feels like he can let himself be.

And I want to see the dynamic between human Quaritch and Jake. Like, hello, the guy was literally 22, fresh from the military after an injury that was the end of his career (and life probably). Quaritch pushed Jake around like a puppy and no one bet an eye because nobody cared! And you tell me there's almost none fics about all this mess😭
