KOSA/KIDS ACT UPDATE 7/24/26
As you may know, the Senate Commerce Committee was eyeing July 29th as a markup date for some kids safety bills, which likely would include some version of KOSA. However, they are still negotiating between Marsha Blackburn and the White House, negotiations which seem to have a lot of back and forth, the Senate is now considering August 3rd as a potential markup date. This would be a few days before they leave for a summer recess which would last until after Labor Day in September.
Call your senators, call your representatives, call Senate Commerce Committee members and give them reason to oppose these bills and to NEVER bring them back up.

KOSA/KIDS ACT UPDATE 7/20/26
Weekly reminder to call your Senators. They are still negotiating and the July 29th date stills seems to be the goal for a mark-up even though it hasn't been confirmed yet. I think the fact the House, Senate, and White House seem to be on separate pages is a good thing, and we need to take advantage of it.

The KIDS act (which contains KOSA) passed the US house, so I recommend calling your senators and telling them to vote in opposition. I don't think I need to stress the importance of being able to use the internet freely and without privacy barriers being breached.
There are many scripts online you can follow, many ways to tweak your message to fit your senator (ESPECIALLY if they are up for reelection this year). Whether it's a recording you reach or a real person, be straightforward, don't argue, just let your rep know that you are a constituent and you oppose the KIDS act, etc.
Here is where you can search for your senator... call, email, fax, bring them physical letters, show up in person to their offices if you are able.

"Why is KOSA so bad? We shouldn't let kids on the Internet anyway"
Lots of people have this response to KOSA and I can understand where they're coming from. I'm very aware how crazy the Internet can get, and I worry sometimes about what kids could be getting into online. It's no wonder that people see this stuff as a good thing. Protecting kids and keeping them from getting into trouble online is NOT the problem here. It's HOW they're trying to do it. KOSA would create a world where you have two choices: 1. Give social media your personal info, your face, ID, or anything else that you SHOULDN'T put on the Internet 2. Be either locked out of your account OR being given a restricted, censored Internet. If you are queer, trans, a person who gets harassed online, or if you're in any other situation where anonymity could be keeping you safe, then THIS IS DANGEROUS. If you have people online harassing you, threatening you, your anonymity PREVENTS those people from being able to find you. If your ID/face is in a hackable database, that info can be sold to dangerous people. And I don't think people talk enough about how this can be dangerous to minors as well. For one, all minors would have to give images of their face to companies. Not only that, but a lot of teens are in situations (like abuse, low income, etc.) where they have nowhere else to go if they want to find support, friends, or info that could help them through struggles or very well save their LIVES. THOSE teens would have to choose between putting THEIR personal info online, or losing access to their friends or support forums. But if you want to keep that privacy and safety, the only other option would be to have a restricted, censored Internet. Whether or not you're an adult. You could be locked out of accounts that you need for work, or that you need to communicate with people. Yes, kids get into trouble online. I have heard very scary stories of how crazy the Internet can be. But I feel like we can come up with better solutions that don't put everyone (kids and adults) in more risk.
JULY 5, 2026-The KIDS Act passed the House. Make sure to call your Senators!!!
You can use the Senate switchboard once more. 202-224-3121
FaxZero lets you send free faxes to your senators with no subscription or sign-up.
Say: "PLEASE VOTE NO ON THE KIDS ACT AND ANYTHING REQUIRING BIOMETRICS, DIGITAL ID, OR AGE VERIFICATION!!!! Parental controls already exist. Why should I hand over my biometric data or government ID if a way to keep kids safe is already in existence? Why should I give up my privacy and freedom of speech? Digital ID and biometric data will destroy privacy and freedom of speech
KOSA UPDATE 7/10/26: THE SENATE RETURNS FROM BREAK SOON
I got this email from Fight For the Future and it is really helpful in communicating where we currently are in the fight against the KIDS Act and KOSA.
We should be using this time during the Senate's break to be calling, spreading the word, and doing everything we can to push back against these harmful bills. The return from break around July 15th, which is when Cruz said he wanted to consider the bills. So please, call while you can.

A tentative date came out this evening from Ben Brody with Punchbowl News. The Senate is eyeing July 29th as a possible markup date, but nothing is confirmed yet. Please! Call your Senators and Committee members.

The Senate is back in session today, 7/13/2026. I've been seeing a lot of people say a vote is today, but that's not true, the Senate is just back in session today and there's no vote scheduled yet in regards to the KIDS Act. I know Senator Cruz, leader of the committee who would take up the KIDS Act/KOSA, mentioned wanting to take Committee action around July 15th, but again, nothing has been scheduled.
Just wanna clear up any confusion because there's a lot of misinformation on some other platforms.
Now is when we must continue to call and be sure we're not spreading panic as well.

I was panicking about KOSA but then I saw this
And then rewatched schoolhouse rock
We still have hope! KOSA is a bill that if made into a law would go against our rights to our freedom online! Examples of what KOSA can do to us has been happening in places like Australia. Let’s continue to stand strong and fight against KOSA

6/30/26 KOSA Update
As I'm sure you know, the KIDS Act, which includes KOSA and other age-verification bills, passed the House and now moves onto the Senate. 267 representatives voted yes, 117 voted no, and 47 did not vote, with a decent number of Democrats voting no.
While this is bad news, the good news is that we pushed thousands of calls in opposition and there are still opportunities to stop these bills. Richard Blumenthal and some key sponsors of KOSA in the Senate DO NOT like the House versions of KOSA/the KIDS Act because they want the bill to include a duty-of-care provision. This duty of care provision has been widely contested, as the House of Representatives opposes it, while those in the Senate support it. While many are saying it's DOA (dead on arrival) in the Senate because of this, we must still call our Senators now to take advantage of this friction and ensure NO VERSION of these bills passes this year.
The Senate is currently out until July 15th, so please use the resources below to get ahead of these bills.
The bills passing the House are not the end, so continue to spread the word and call to oppose the KIDS Act/H.R. 7757!

6/29/26 KOSA UPDATE
Today, the US House is likely to vote on the KIDS Act, which includes KOSA and other age verification bills.
The vote is likely to be successful and pass the bill out of the House and move it into the Senate. IF THIS HAPPENS, WE CONTINUE TO CALL. THERE ARE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO STOP THIS BILL IN THE SENATE AS IT WILL UNDERGO A SIMILAR PROCESS AS IT DID IN THE HOUSE. THAT MEANS ALL WILL NOT BE LOST.
If you haven't yet, call your senators, representatives, and House Leadership before today's vote (It will likely be this evening).
