you know why. it's growing up in a kind of secluded place, it being grey and dingy and just only really having a few people to be properly close with growing up, and then moving away and living somewhere new and just not really knowing how to function. the lyrics just match their melancholic, dysfunctional, "fucked up but trying very hard to make it work" vibes imo.

Gawain

"just a small town shame"

obvs. but still a banger.

I love this band so much. this description always makes me think of Gawain, not sure why. read into that yourself.

side note, when I saw these guys live they immediately became the basis for most of my Arthurian character designs. just look at that album cover man I'm going insane

Agravaine

as I said, I love this band so much. "cheeky bastard" is maybe the one term other than "knight" that can be used most accurately to describe Arthurian characters, but I think it fits my (albeit limited) idea of ags. it's musically very similar to PJ (obviously, it's the same band)

Mordred

god I love this song. it's about a serial killer, but the themes and lyrics just fit so well with Mordred and Arthur's dynamic. "oh, is it easy to remember what it takes to be a man?" GOING INSANE. it's him and Arthur to me — both of them are the murderer of the other, they're literally cut from the same cloth, both of them losing their minds over the other. insane. I love alt j no one's doing it like them

Gareth and Gaheris

"four men in uniform to carry home my little soldier"

just. gives me shivers every time I listen. and I know that technically all the knights like signed up for it knowing what they're going into but still. in my eyes, all Gareth and Gaheris wanted was to be like their brothers, and we all know how that ended for them. I love them and should think about them more often but I fear what it would do for my mental health

someone might kill me for saying this but I think this version is my favourite. I love tldp, their vibes are just *chefs kiss*

Percival

again with the noah kahan these knights are sad sad

but again, it's growing up and not feeling like you can ever really leave. you want to, desperately, but you're scared and you do love your home but you know there's more out there but you're stuck and you can never leave. stagnating with the people who love you. you can't leave them, but you have to if you want to live.

yeah. insane.
