I’ve been trying to get myself organized to return to running some Divergent fandom events! Especially with the great people in Bee’s Discord Server (plug, plug, plug), it seemed a shame that there haven’t been any Divergent events lately. So, here I am with a non-ship-specific exchange! I thought about presenting this as a survey, but the more that I tried to word things as questions the more that I realized that I wanted just general feedback on a proposed setup. So see below for the proposed structure. 

Timeline

September 2020 - Planning, feedback on structure October 5-18 - Signups October 21 - Assignments go out November 16-20 - Check in! December 6 - Assignments Due December 14 - Collection opens for reading (anonymous) December 26 - Author reveals

My target for this would be to give sufficient time for writing (there are a lot of events around December), for any pinch hits, and for this to not be due too close to the actual holidays when people are surely busy!

500 word minimum

Complete by assignment due date (no placeholders)

Does not include requester Do Not Wants (DNWs)

Sign-ups

Sign-ups will include two parts- requests and offers. 

Requests must include at minimum one (1) non-romantic request. This means you’re asking for a fic about just one character, two characters with a platonic relationship, or multiple platonic relationships. Please include any optional prompts, your likes, Opt-ins, and your DNWs in each request. Example:

Natalie Prior & Tris Prior Prompt/Likes: Bonding after Tris realizes that her mother was Dauntless. DNW: Natalie to die during the Abnegation attack 

Requests can include additional requests (up to 3)  that are either romantic or non-romantic. Please include any optional prompts, your likes, Opt-ins, and your DNWs in each request. Example:

Four | Tobias Eaton/Tris Prior Prompt/Likes: Tris helping Four with one of his fears. OK with smut, as long as it is consensual DNW: Non/Dub-con, BDSM or similar kink

If no match can be made to your offer, the moderator will reach out to the email associated with your AO3 profile if possible. The prompts/likes and DNWs cannot be used to box your author into writing something extremely specific. Example:

Peter/Christina Prompt/Likes: Hooking up throughout Initiation, Christina feeling embarrassed about their relationship. Smut please!! DNW: Relationship without smut, Peter/Christina being in a public relationship

Opt-ins are aspects that you are open to, but are not required. Opt-ins are also not assumed to be OK by authors unless stated.

Matching

Matching will be done with OR matching – your offer will be matched to a character or a ship included in someone’s request. I am fairly confident that by including a non-romantic request with each sign-up, matching should leave everyone knowing that they will be able to create something their reader will enjoy. 

Any opt-ins (such as smut) are not requirements. The prompts/likes and DNWs cannot be used to box your author into writing something extremely specific. 

Any requests which cannot be matched to an offer will result in the moderator reaching out to the requester and giving time for them to add to or change their sign-up. If by Oct 21 there are still no matching offers, the request will go to the pinch-hit list.

Defaulting/Pinch Hits

If you cannot complete your assignment, please notify the moderator. All incomplete assignments will be automatically defaulted on Dec 7th and sent out for pinch hitting.

If you are interested in volunteering as a potential pinch hitter (no requirement), please leave a note in your offer. Pinch hitters may also be solicited from the wider community (Dreamwidth, Tumblr, etc).

Ch 33 / ?

I focused on trying to breathe deeply. I think only a few minutes had passed, but now the sweat was dripping down my back and the sun beat down on me mercilessly. My hip ached. My chest heaved. All the while I strained to tell if the birds had changed their position above me. Was that another one coming to take a peck at my exposed neck? The fence stretched endlessly on and on. There was no sign of the checkpoint I needed to get back into the city. 

I moved into a jog to cover more ground. I could hear air whistling over wingtips as another bird streaked down to dive past me. I cringed from the sharp claws slashing as it careened by. Nothing made contact save for the eddies of current as it whirled back around. My feet stumbled on uneven ground. Dried grass snaked at my feet and whipped at my exposed ankles. 

Something changed in the air. A cloud blotted the sun and shadow covered the grasslands around me. “This isn’t real,” I told myself. Weather could certainly change this quickly, though. I pushed myself to keep jogging. I had to show that I could handle this fear, whatever it had evolved into. 

I couldn’t stop myself from looking up once more though. The clouds had moved in but what was smothering the sunlight above me was a writhing, cawing, frantic mob of birds. No, not birds. Crows. 

Ch 27 / ? - A Divergent Rewrite

Excerpt

I never did deal well with that nagging voice in the back of my head. Impulsive decisions were great until the aftermath. I dragged myself to my feet and bussed my tray, readying myself to suck it up and admit my mistake to Four.

Then the universe gave me a distraction in the broad shouldered form of a certain Leader that I hadn’t seen in days. He was getting out of the elevator and heading in the much less stressful direction of the Pit. My resolve swept out like the tide, and I turned to follow him instead of continuing on to the simulation corridor.

Yeah. I really don’t deal well with that whole ‘guilty conscience’ thing.

Hello loves! So something happened and I am going off my normal heavily trod path of Eric/OC fics. I am daring to follow the path of Eris. Funny thing, Eris is actually a goddess of discord….so I guess that kinda fits for what I am doing. Tris will be rather OOC and is a tougher but not exactly ruthless version of herself. I had seriously contemplated using another faceclaim for her but decided to stick with Shailene.

An Eris Fluff Fic

I had to hide a grin as I saw Tris pack her camera into her bag along with lunch I’d brought up along with breakfast. It had been “our” camera technically, but, well, it was more hers by now. She stretched up onto her toes once she’d slung the bag on. I took the opportunity to wrap one arm around her stomach and press a kiss to her neck.

“Eric, you know that tickles,” Tris tried to admonish. I added a second arm around her - that was tricky with the bag on but I managed - and pressed my face further into the dip of her collarbone.

“Hmm?” I asked, feigning ignorance. “This tickles? How could that be?” She squirmed in my grip for a moment more before I let her go. A spark of rebellion lit her eyes now.

“You’re being awfully mushy today,” she commented. We started out from our apartment, down the corridor and into the stairwell down to the southern exit.

I plastered a scowl onto my face. “Should I put on my Initiate training face on instead? Thought we’d get to just enjoy our day off together, mushily or otherwise,” I said.

Tris wrapped two fingers around mine as we descended the stairs, linking us together. “No, no, please not that,” she laughed. “Mushy is fine. It’s kind of nice, actually. You being all sweet. Though you’re making me look bad in comparison.”

Eric’s really not getting the whole “nice guy” thing

Person B : I may have aggressively poked someone with I knife

Person A : yoU STAbbeD SOMEONE!!??!?

Holding their partner’s unconscious/dead body

One of them is hurt and the other falls asleep in their hospital room

One is mind controlled and forced to fight the other

The other refusing to harm them and getting seriously injured as consequence 

The person coming to and seeing what they’ve done

I could go on about this trope alone for 5 hours

A last desperate “I love you!” 

A tearful, hard kiss before battle, bonus points if its a confessional kiss

“Please, I don’t know what I’d do without you.” 

Bandaging each other’s wounds

Our first event was a prompt exchange and it went over fairly well! Then we switched gears to a general theme based event for last summer. And last winter’s also did a theme event with the option to follow reader prompts. 

We’re a small li’l fandom, so I’m not expecting massive turnouts in general. However, I would like to poke around a bit and see if maybe we can try and get a couple more participants the next time around! That might let us do another proper prompt exchange once again rather than general themes. (It’s also 100% cool to let me know if you guys don’t even want to do prompt exchanges! I want to do what will work for y’all!)

So, my thoughts on that would be:

Is there a “better” way that I can signal boost the event to reach more authors?

Is there a word count min-max that would encourage folks to join in who are on the fence? Or any other way to maybe support readers to try their first attempts in writing something?

Would anyone be interested in jumping over from Eric/OC fic to Eric/Tris fic?
