On my honor as a Tully, on my honor as a Stark.                      I must be as strong as my lady mother.
When she opened the door to the garden, it was so lovely that she held her breath, unwilling to disturb such perfect beauty. The snow drifted down and down, all in ghostly silence, and lay thick and unbroken on the ground. All color had fled the world outside. It was a place of whites and blacks and greys. White towers and white snow and white statues, black shadows and black trees, the dark grey sky above. A pure world, Sansa thought. I do not belong here.Yet she stepped out all the same. (A Storm of Swords)

âThe day she was born they rang the bells from sunrise âtil sunset.â Sansa of House Stark, The Queen in the North. By denvertakespics

âSansa was a lady at three, always so courteous and eager to please.â
Sansa Appreciation Week | Day Seven: Sophie Turner / Queen Sansa
Sansa appreciation week- day 7 Sophie Turner
The GOT cast talking about Sophie.
David Benioff
âSansa. She started out so naive and was forced to undergo the most brutal possible education into the world but emerged from it and became this powerful figure and kind of against all odds. I donât think too many people watching the first season had any expectation that Sansa would become the woman that she became. And part of that is the story and part of that is Sophie Turner and the phenom she turned out to be as an actress. We knew when we cast Sophie that she was this really good child actor but we had no idea sheâd become the force thatâs sheâs become. So if I had to pick one, Iâd pick Sansa.â
John Bradley
âSophieâs sustain performance over the course of this series is my favorite performance, because she makes you feel everything she is feeling; and she is one of those people who really makes you care about the character because she has a kind of magical quality to her.â
Peter Dinklage
âIâm just lucky enough to work with people like Sophie Turner, who is just, I think, one of my favourite actorsâ
âSophieâs the best! I had so much fun working with her.â
âSophie has a beautiful stillness to her as an actor thatâs incredibly rare. From the start as a very young girl she had such discipline. One minute she could be dancing and singing a musical number and the instant they are camera ready she can flip the switch and dig so deep emotionally. Thatâs a gift.â
Pedro Pascal
â[On the funniest actor behind the scenes]Â Oh my god, so many of them are so funny. The entire cast is very very witty and a fun cast, so this is very hard to choose, but I guess something that people might not expect is that Sophie Turner had me in stitches a lot of the time. Iâm not sure if she was trying to be funny but she was still making me laugh.â
Lena Headey
âSophieâs confidence has grown, and rightly so. She has a genuine ability to be vulnerable, which is rare and lovely. Her work isnât forced, its natural and open. Also, THAT face!â
Sibel Kekilli
âSheâs like every 17-year-old girl, freaking out for Justin Bieber. [Laughs] She makes jokes of my English. She keeps telling me wrong words in English, and I believe her, so I will use these words, and in the end, sheâll start to laugh at me. âThese are the wrong English words. I was just making fun of you.â Thatâs really mean! But thatâs Sophie. I love her.â
âI love Sophie! I feel like a motherâsheâs growing so fast! Sheâs so tall, too! She was a kid in the first season, and now sheâs a young woman, even more beautiful. I feel like I have to take care of her in private life. I love her.â
âLast season, she had a really difficult scene where she had to cry as she watched Littlefingerâs ship leave without her. It was such a heartbreaking scene, and she did it so wellâshe couldnât stop crying! Sheâs a really good actress.â âI got to see a lot of great actors â young actors â children, like Sophie (Turner). Seeing her grow up was very special.â
Natalie Dormer
âI have this sincere love and respect for this wonderful blossoming thatâs happening in young Sophie as an actressâ
âI remember this day and I remember the way Sophie, on her own, completely naturally cried on and off for hours. It was the most beautiful, natural performance. I know teenagers, they have hormones going around, but it was natural tears the entire time. She was beautifulâ
Kit Harington
âI was with Kit in many sittings when he was talking about how much he hoped heâd get a chance to play a scene with Sophie Turner. So I was privy to the information that [Harington and Turner] werenât for a while,â Sackheim recalls.
When the actors finally got the script for âBook of the Stranger,â they were thrilled to see Sansa and Jon reuniting - and to share their first scene together in the showâs history. â[They] talked about it all the time,â Sackheim says, âthe sort of weirdness of it and the joy of finally coming together.â
âI hope we´re all still working. I´d love to work with Sophie again, but are people only going to see Jon and Sansa? What i hope is that we are still in touchâ
Maisie Williams
âSophie knows too much about me to not be my friend. I canât tell you the amount of times Sophie said, âGo to therapyâ before I actually did. She really helped me through some messy break-ups and some friend break-ups. Whenever Iâm like, âI need help! This is bigger than anything I can sort out on my own,â Sophie is my point of call.â

Yet she stepped out all the same.â
- ASOS, Sansa VII
YET SHE STEPPED OUT ALL THE SAME.
I love this passage, because Sansa is CHOOSING to continue to pursue goodness and purity even after she believes herself to be sullied by the cruelties sheâs endured. No matter how many people try to violently wrench her away from her idealism, she is still drawn in that direction purely by instinct, and it will be her salvation.
So I vehemently reject D&Dâs narrative that Sansa will become some cold-hearted, bitter ice queen who rejects love and compassion and adopts her abusersâ values and passing it off as âstrengthâ. No maâam. It takes MORE strength to rise above the toxicity and remain good and hopeful than it does to just give in to your demons and to the people who tried to break you. Sansa Stark WILL NOT BE BROKEN.

Sansa Stark Appreciation Week 2019: Day 3, A Storm of Swords
âHis uncleâs part went less well. The brideâs cloak he held was huge and heavy, crimson velvet richly worked with lions and bordered with gold satin and rubies. No one had thought to bring a stool, however, and Tyrion stood a foot and a half shorter than his bride. As he moved behind her, Sansa felt a sharp tug on her skirt. He wants me to kneel, she realized, blushing. She was mortified. It was not supposed to be this way. She had dreamed of her wedding a thousand times, and always she had pictured how her betrothed would stand behind her tall and strong, sweep the cloak of his protection over her shoulders, and tenderly kiss her cheek as he leaned forward to fasten the clasp.
She felt another tug at her skirt, more insistent. I wonât. Why should I spare his feelings, when no one cares about mine?
The dwarf tugged at her a third time. Stubbornly she pressed her lips together and pretended not to notice. Someone behind them tittered. The queen, she thought, but it didnât matter. They were all laughing by then, Joffrey the loudest. âDontos, down on your hands and knees,â the king commanded. âMy uncle needs a boost to climb his bride.â
And so it was that her lord husband cloaked her in the colors of House Lannister whilst standing on the back of a fool.
When Sansa turned, the little man was gazing up at her, his mouth tight, his face as red as her cloak. Suddenly she was ashamed of her stubbornness. She smoothed her skirts and knelt in front of him, so their heads were on the same level. âWith this kiss I pledge my love, and take you for my lord and husband.ââ
-Sansa III, A Storm of Swords
***
Sansa has been psychologically, mentally, and physically abused for about a year now. She had hopes for escaping to Highgarden with the Tyrells, who truthfully only wanted her claim but at least would not mistreat her, and she would have freedom in a safe, beautiful home. That one fragile hope is shattered when the Lannisters get word of this and force her to marry Tyrion, whoâs not as bad as Joffrey but is still her familyâs enemy and twice her age, in order to keep hold of her birthright.
This is not Sansa â"being meanââ to the guy marrying a 12 year old POW bride. This is Sansa refusing to kneel during the ceremony, the only way she can keep a little of the dignity her abusers have worked so hard to take away. The only way she can visibly protest being married against her will and have her identity- inner of the few things she has left with her family missing or dead- stripped away from her and her ancestral home stolen.
She isnât intentionally embarrassing Tyrion. Sansa is being humiliated and hurt here and trying to stay strong as best she can. But sheâs an inherently kind person who sees sheâs hurting Tyrionâs feelings and decides to kneel for him. Overall, itâs a sad scene for Sansa but a powerful moment of quiet rebellion that her detractors frequently ignore. Sansa has always been proud of being a Stark and fights to keep her identity when others keep trying to take it away from her, but even in her pain she sympathizes with her enemy even while she wants the Lannisters defeated.

Queen of the North
âThey are children, Sansa thought. They are silly little girls, even Elinor. Theyâve never seen a battle, theyâve never seen a man die, they know nothing. Their dreams were full of songs and stories, the way hers had been before Joffrey cut her fatherâs head off. Sansa pitied them. Sansa envied them.â
