Amy is implied to have abandonment issues, so it's no surprise why she became so attached to Sonic. She somewhat misinterpreted her tarot card readings and initially thought of Sonic as her soulmate, her Prince Charming, typical girly fairytale-ish stuff. But Sonic was so much more than that, he was her catalyst, her jumpstart into independence and maturity, the one who'd bring excitement into her life and shape her ideals.

My newfound appreciation of Amy mainly comes from the fact that she has matured without sacrificing her kindness, the Adventure duology is an example of how she could get through even the most stubborn characters. The signs were already there, I just wasn't paying attention like I should.

For years, I've fell into the trap of fanon fallacies; to me, Amy was that annoying, vapid and bratty bitch with yandere tendencies who refused to acknowledge the Elephant in the Room that is Dr. Eggman and his occasional megalomaniacal schemes. Like girly, the world's in danger once more, and all you're concerned about is marrying Sonic? Be so for real now.

But thankfully, that's all in the past. And I'd say that Amy Rose is one of the very few examples of Girl Power in mainstream media where she doesn't constantly belittle men into making herself good. She engages in girly hobbies and yet she's the one with the warhammer, not to mention that she's also a weirdo who's into mysticism and True Crime podcasts.
