I love how there are so many research articles out there â that are backed up by licensed experts and actual victims/survivors â that prove creative writing, including dark fiction, can help a lot of victims and survivors heal from their trauma (not all, obviously, but it works for a lot of people) but there are still some random people on the internet who are like âactually no I support victims and survivors, because Iâm such a good person, but if they heal in a way that I personally do not approve of then I am gonna shame them and call them predators. like why would they do that especially without my permission ewww disgustingâ
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
I once saw an article put it this way: often "this is problematic" is used to shut down discussion of a thing, by casting a sweeping but vague judgement. But really if used at all it should start a discussion about what the problem is.
personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like âthe way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so Iâm doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the sameâ are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe Iâve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist
the online identity and gimmick-ifying of autism is so odd. I'm diagnosed with autism and yet I barely identify with any stuff I see about it anymore. It feels like autism is being rebranded as the Silly Guy Disorder that gives you smart and beautiful hyperspecific interests. it's not that I mind silly jokes or being lighthearted about being autistic- but when the entire social movement is based around marketing us this way, I just can't help but feel isolated from it. it feels like I'm not the right kind of autistic. I'm not marketable and digestible to common audiences, and therefore I am discarded by the movement in the name of progress and acceptance. it feels foul.

people on here make ocs and they're mostly men and they ship characters and they're always men and they have favourite characters and they're always men but sometimes they say the men are like women not trans ones though because that would be guh-ross and harsh the vibe of the #fandomspace and they write fanfiction about men and talk about how complicated and #deeplywritten their male favs are and they'll watch movies and tv shows with mostly male casts in every way that matters and not question it because well what do you want them to do about it and they don't even care that that's what they're doing to them it's pure coincidence they always like the male characters better it's pure chance that women are only interesting as yaoi cheerleaders and actually when they write female characters as yaoi cheerleaders they're doing them a favour because they were just so poorly written in the source material it's the charitable thing to do men men men men men men men and if you say anything about it well you're being a killjoy you're being no fun you're being homophobic you're being a misandrist god what is it about women right what is it about women always trying to ruin our fun? why do they care so much? they're just women. who wants to think about women at all.
cuz it got wiped from the internet: transfems it's so cute to want to be cute. do what you think makes you cute, it's ok if you feel awkward that's cute too. you can be yourself, even if you don't think that's very cute, you will still be the worlds cutest girl. i love you
one of the best parts of transitioning was been the freedom to be a little silly and cute. before, if i tried to act that way, i'd get hit with a wave of disgust and self-hatred so strong i'd get a pain attack. today, i was chatting with a coworker and made a pouty face without even thinking about it, and it was so natural. i feel like a human now, i don't have to remember what emotions i am feeling to express them, they just happen.
it's wonderful. it makes me smile, and thinking about it makes me giggle.
"I will never swim again until and unless I get surgery."
"This is why I try so hard to protect my trans sister, she has to deal with so much of this all of the time."
"And this is why I will never learn how to swim"
"I never go swimming, unless it's an event that explicitely mention that Trans Women are welcome"
And other such tags I am vaguely paraphrasing are ones I have had the horror of reading on my post. The trans girls are not swimming. It feels like there is a hole in my body where my heart should be, through which all my blood is pouring. I can't.
I want a sitcom about a friend group or family wherein one of the main characters is a trans woman. I want her to be the most bubbly, kind, energetic character and the show to demonstrate over the episodes that this woman is the fucking glue that holds these people together. They love each other but thereâs miscommunications and difficulties expressing themselves and well-meaning ideas that turn toxic. But you have this character who has had to build herself from nothing and is paying that joy sheâs cultivated outward.
And then I want a flashback episode that takes place ten years before. And that trans woman is the saddest, numbest man with no light in her eyes. I want her future self to haunt that narrative like a fucking specter. Watching fights that she would have stopped and people she would have helped. It should be clear that when someone finds themselves and cultivates self-love it spills out to the people around them, too. And the relationships arenât the same without that.
A frustrating thing about being aware of transmisogyny is how hard it is to convince other transfems (particularly those who are newly out) of its existence as a real form of oppression.
You'll meet a girl who got kicked out of a queer group because of a sex joke she made that landed badly, and she'll just be taking 100% of the blame and saying she deserved it, saying that she should have known her place and been meek and sexless to prove that she's not a predator.
You'll meet a girl who's afraid to go to the laser clinic, because the one time she went she overheard the laser techs arguing about who would be "burdened" with her, and from that she internalised that she *is* a burden that no one should have to deal with.
You'll meet a girl who's gone to the theoretically-inclusive sapphic meetup like ten times, even though no-one ever talks to her, and when she tries to talk to them they give a one-word response and turn away. And she just keeps going back because she thinks the problem is that she's the "new girl". Even though there have been three newer girls than her who are already in the in-group.
Some of these women are so used to marginalisation and mistreatment, that when it happens again and again they consider it the natural course of events. It's their own fault, some unique character flaw that they alone have. And they're so isolated and desperate for community that they will put up with any amount of abuse from other queers.
Sometimes it's only after seeing it happen several times to *other* transfems, and never any other kind of queer person even if they do exactly the same things, that they realise that a pattern exists, and there is a name for that pattern, and all there's a whole world of transfeminist writing for them to dive into with newly-opened eyes.

once you realize how much everyone fucking loves age- and incest-play you'll go even more insane when they tell you to join their campaign to run transgender woman #487324 off the internet (where she gets her income) for her incest kink or whatever
it really is Our Righteous "pouting and throwing a cute tantrum at my partner to get what i want", "daddy/mommy", "old man yaoi", and a long etc v. their villainous "calling her partner 'little sis'" to encourage sexual abuse of children or smth
straight people especially LOVE ageplay have you ever seen them interact. it is like their main thing.
and not like it is important but since i sometimes see that thrown around: they love doing it in public too, and i don't mean in an obscure tumblr blog (theyre straight) but at. the store in front of 20 people. again, it is one of their main things.
i'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before but i'm just thinking about how common and rendered-invisible by normalization it is to see a straight couple where the woman playfully acts like a little girl sometimes for whatever reason and it's. fine. and i of course don't mean they should leave it in the bedroom or whatever i'm not christian, i'm saying it's so overt but of course it's fine when non-transmisogynized people do it. they have never harmed children in any way obviously.
Imagine Grace defined his name as the elegance definition of grace and Rocky spends years thinking how fucking ironic this clumsy leaky space blobs name is.
Until Grace slips out a sentence along the lines of "could you give me a little grace here" and Rocky immediately points out he used a word wrong so Grace has to explain that yeah, grace means elegance but it can also mean mercy sometimes too.
And Rocky has to suddenly reconcile that the clumsy leaky blob that saved his life twice, that almost certainly doomed himself to come back for him, name is Mercy.
Can I be honest with yall I don't want to hear SHIT against cishets at pride this year
"But it's not FOR them!!!" The biggest military power in the world belongs to a christofascist nation overseen by a felon found guilty of 34 federal crimes and has greenlit a gestapo with more direct funding than the entire military of Canada for the purpose of ethnic cleansing. Let Hetero Jessica throw some biodegradable glitter at a municipal parade
At this point if anyone is trying to exclude anyone benignly pro-queer from a pro-queer space I'm just going to assume you're a fed or something idk like something something destabilize the movement from within or whatever
Shouldnât Have Done That
TADC should have been about âThe Double Empathy Problemâ and Iâll never SHUT UP about it!!!
