Half the backlash to fat lib content essentially boils down to "I can't believe you're FORCING me to not be mean to you"
Thin people are absolutely relentless with this. "But I have to TELL them!" "I can't just not SAY something!" "We can't just PRETEND it's fine to be fat!"
They really seem to think the main reason people are fat is because we're simply drowning in approval and no one has been brave enough to inform us that it's better to not be fat, actually
I genuinely think it's related to what I observe about singleness, virginity, and ace/aro topics: people's entire worldviews are threatened by fat liberation. And having your worldview challenged is scary... especially because so many people have put so, so much personal effort into Not Being Fat, so much self-hate into gaining weight, so much self-denial of food they like and forcing themselves into activities they hate, to avoid being fat.
And fat liberation says "It's okay to be fat!" and fat people say "I'm happy being fat and I don't try to become skinny!"
And it scares people that that is an option. It scares people to think that they have sunk so much time, so much effort, so much misery into avoiding being fat. And this person in front of them is just... not even trying. Rejecting the game. Saying You Don't Have To Do That.
If they accept that they didn't have to do that... then they made themselves so unhappy, for so long, for no reason.
They want their effort, their unhappiness, to have been worth it. To have meant something.
So they have to believe that being fat is wrong, bad, gross, a moral failing, and the only reason anyone would be happy that way is if they just don't know better. Because the other option is to realize and admit that they suffered unnecessarily for years and it meant nothing at all.
This is also why people violently resist the reality that weight loss dieting does not result in sustainable significant weight loss for the vast majority of people who attempt it.
Not an invitation to cocoon yourself in a self-care bubble for four years, but a reminder to the 24/7 worriers that you can literally write "To Do on Monday: Worry about ________" on a post-it note and stop worrying about it for one day while you recharge.
Another point: Both your mental health and your ability to resist will be improved by finding a community. A sorrow shared is a sorrow halved. And apes together strong.

WEREWOLF (2/6)
one of my favorite movie monsters! awooo
Iโve noticed some posts around about how you canโt romanticize your life during a fascist regime and while I deeply sympathize with this sentiment, I want you to try to understand thatโs what they want you to believe.
Fascism thrives best in the cesspool of hopelessness. They want us so confused and hopeless that we give in. When you give in, you donโt fight back.
If you wait for life to look good to do the things that bring you joy; life will still be bad - you will just have less joy.
As someone who has struggled with my mental health a lot for the last thirty years, I know this struggle firsthand. And changing this belief system - the one where you spend all of your time expecting bad things so you wonโt be surprised when they happen - itโs the hardest work that I have ever done. And Iโm not perfect; I still have setbacks. I still experience really real fears about the state of the world and the US, in particular, because thatโs where I live.
But I made a vow to myself that I will not let the choices of others ruin my life. When I made that vow, I was thinking of my parents - but it applies to the state of the government right now, too.
There are still flowers in my garden, and ripe tomatoes, and itโs almost pick-your-own apples season, and I have plans with my friends to go to as many cemetery ghost walks as we can find this October.
I still deserve to live. I still deserve to laugh. I still deserve to love. I still deserve to be as happy as I can be.
And you do, too.
Dan Savage.

this post is already on tumblr, why repost it?
You must be new here.
I've been here for a decade and my puzzlement over this kind of behavior remains evergreen
I admire the restraint not to point out you literally wrote the post that was screencapped.
Make plans for a month from now, for two months from now, for five. Pick a restaurant and book a reservation for April. Circle a museum exhibit.
Find joy and hold onto it tight. Give yourself a reason to look forward. And keep your community close.
being abused or neglected really makes it clear how many things are skills that nobody really treats as. skills. exercising autonomy is a skill. listening to your body is a skill. resting is a skill. being liked and being loved are skills. nobody tells you how to do this shit because nobody even told me I was supposed to have learnt these things when I was a kid. I kind of just have to manually figure out what makes me freak out and work from there. unfair as shit
English added by me :)

lie to me
I think you carry the people youโve loved with you forever, not in a โyou can never get over themโ way but more like loving them changed you and it meant something and you have to make peace with that
"Don't be mean to him. He's literally five."
"He's a monster."
"Yeah. He's five."
Breaking!
Not too busy, but teacher was running late so I couldn't go ๐ฅบ 'Pls do more drills in class.' (Which.......okay. I can do that in my own time at home or in the open sessions.)
Beginner from last week came back, yey! ๐ Let's uh, see how she feels after teacher is being a speed demon through the routine. ๐ ๐ ๐
(He wasn't and was going through it pretty slowly for him because we had some late comers so we would cover it from the beginning again so they could follow through.)
People who are hard on yourselves: may I humbly offer you the 100 floors of frights philosophy?
In the SNL David S. Pumpkins sketch, a couple is on a ride called "100 Floors of Frights," where they see a different scare on each floor, and at one point they complain about many of those floors being lame. And then Kenan Thompson delivers this line of deep philosophical wisdom: "Hey lookโit's 100 floors of frights, they not all gonna be winners."
My husband and I use this line all the time to give ourselves grace. For instance, I'm a good cook, but when I make a dinner that doesn't turn out well, I will literally say out loud, "It's 100 floors of frightsโthey're not all gonna be winners," or just "Look it's 100 floors of frights."
It just means when you do a thing a whole lot, there's bound to be some instances that are bad. You don't have to be good at the thing 100% of the time. You can't be good 100% of the time. Some of the 100 floors are gonna suck. It doesn't negate your skill at creating the rest of the 100 floors.
You can use this for anything: art you make, performances, school assignments, days at work, outfits, sex sessions, literally anything that you are too hard on yourself about when it doesn't go great. Listen to Kenan Thompson and remember that it's impossible for them all to be winners, and that's okay.

I feel way more motivated to practice breaking than capoeira. ๐ ๐ ๐ I think it's partially because capoeira is with partners making you move in certain ways, but also I'm still learning capoeira moves, so I'm okay not really focusing on perfecting things yet because I'm still building vocab.
But breaking, I know a lot of moves now and I have a really obvious skill deficit in going into cyphers/freestyling so I know what I need to focus on? Freestyling isn't something I'm going to learn in class so it's something I have to practice on my own to get a better feel for it.
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH!!
