"Though I suppose a new queen probably might feel like a new beginning sometimes...." She knew that they had rather dramatically changed the dynamic in court. She hoped that she'd given Maverick a bit more confidence- at least not to let the council bully or beat him into submission.
But that wasn't really what he was asking was it. "Well....it doesn't feel like much has changed yet. Or maybe we changed before the title?" She tilted her head in consideration, feeling his endless dark eyes on her. She flushed. "I- I'm not sure you're going to like the answer. But I kind of like being your wife more." She confessed, moving to get up so he wouldn't see how not- casually she said it.

Maverickโs lips twitched, but he didnโt outright smile. Instead, he let the corner of his mouth lift just enough to tease, green eyes glinting in the early light. โPretty blokes with wings?โ he echoed, letting the words hang. โI suppose I could be that, if it keeps you awake at night.โ
He stepped closer, careful not to crowd her, but close enough that the warmth of his presence brushed against her shoulder. โBut yes, the rumors areโฆ literal. Wings, fire, scales, the whole inconvenient package. And if they are right,โ he added, voice dropping, โthen there might be more stirring out there than either of us imagined. Dragons arenโt supposed to exist in my realm anymore. I should be the last.โ He paused, studying her carefully. โAnd yet, I have reason to think someoneโs been rewriting that story. Secretly. Maybe even behind my back.โ
Then, his clawed hand brushed a fallen leaf from the path. โSo, you wanted intrigue? Consider yourself warned.โ
"Mmm." A hum left Alex from where she was perched on the side of his desk, having picked up the tablet. She flipped through the articles and through the notes. She didn't understand it all but she understood enough. Corperate had never been her thing and when it came to law she knew just enough to get through the rules to get what she wanted without landing in jail for too long. Sadly what she did understand was rivalry. That trancended law school and board rooms.
She flicked to the little profiles she had gathered on each one of the people he had mentioned, studying them for a moment. She was also very very good at research.
"I guess I'll have to wait to have a crash out about the ex until later." She snorted indignantly before tossing the tablet back onto the desk and looking up to find him looking at her. He looked so tired.
"I think the big question is...how did they all find eachother and who was the one that initiated the finding?" She pointed out. Knowing the ring leader was always a good start- the first thread to be pulled.
She moved more towards him, sitting on the desk in front of him to hopefully offer some soft of relief and physical support. "Tell them- the investors the truth. You're better then three people and they're still mad about it." She put her hands on his shoulders, thumbs rubbing the side of his neck.
