Loki doesn’t tell people he cares about them. At all. Family, friends, lovers. Its not something he does. It’s something he’s never done. Him believing he didn’t have to be alone caused a whole ass nexus event! He sees himself in Slyvie and that was the ultimate form of self acceptance. So when he grabs her, and he’s nervous, those nerves could very well be from him finally getting to say to someone “I care about what happens to you.” genuinely, no tricks, no lies.

Not necessarily in the romantic sense.

Just. He’s never had to tell someone he cares for them in any way, shape or form probably since he was a child. This is a huge fucking moment for him!! He’s realised the only other person he could even remotely consider an ally or a friend has been pruned, and the only person he has left in that very moment is Sylvie. Remember, he thinks his whole family is gone. Frigga and Odin he watched die, he watched his own death, and then the file ended. As far as he’s concerned, Thor is gone as well.

He’s realised his whole family, and now Mobius, have died without him ever telling them (or them telling him, with Frigga the exception, but that’s for another day) that he cares for them. He is living with the fact that Thor *said* he thought the world of him, and Loki never got the chance to express that he loved his brother, deep down. He doesn’t want the same to happen to Slyvie, who he knows for a fact is in the same boat as him. She has never felt cared for in her life. She’s had to fend for herself since she was a child.

So I think while yeah they set that up for a whole romantic confession it works as a simple “I want you to survive, I care about you.” too.
