Headcanon that Heinz was banned from OWCA Karaoke Night after his rendition of Holding Out For a Hero complete with backup chorus girls. It was genuinely a great performance, Monogram was just salty that everyone liked it better over him trying to sing I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General.
I think what bothers me the most about Ferbnessa, aside from the obvious, is how much Ferb is treated like an adult in canon sometimes?? I feel insane saying it but sometimes the way he's written feels so unnaturally mature.
I will always compare Ferb's crush with Dipper's crush on Wendy (because frankly Gravity Falls is the gold standard for writing a child having a crush on someone significantly older). In Gravity Falls we completely understand Dipper's crush on Wendy is childish and unattainable. We understand why he's having these feelings but it's not endorsing the hypothetical relationship. In Phineas and Ferb, Ferb flirts with Vanessa multiple times and it feels like an adult in a child's body in those moments. Which is funny on a surface level and in isolation, but uncomfortable with a deeper context. Ferb's crush is treated as a running gag instead of an exploration of his character. Which is a shame because there is so much writing potential with Ferb having a crush that can be done in a way that's nuanced and authentic.
YUP. I agree with all of this 100000%. I get what you’re saying with Ferb. Esp with his singing voice in the original show being different than his talking voice!!!! It’s just bizarre in hindsight…maybe he’s wise beyond his years but he’s still a kid :(
I love how Gravity Falls depicts this situation. And as a 12 year old watching season 1 as it aired I TOTALLY shipped Dipper and Wendy. But now as an adult, I just really really love how the show handled that situation. Especially when it doubles down on it with Dipper encountering a younger Wendy and realizing how weird it is for her to think he’s cute AND the fake-Wendy in Mabel’s bubble suggesting to Dipper that they become the same age and him realizing it isn’t real!!!! It’s such a great testament to the reality of the situation. those are the kinds of stories kids need to grow up with, not whatever ferbnessa is😵💫.
like I’d LOVE if they did a build up of Vanessa and Ferb having a little friendship leading to an episode where Vanessa learns he’s got a crush, maybe Candace notices and gives Ferb grief for it and he’s embarrassed, or he sees Vanessa with Monty and gets sad. But Vanessa lets him down easy in a similar vein to Wendy and encourages him. It would be so sweet. And important for kids to see!!!!
like. idk. in my heart of hearts, they’re sibling coded and there’s no crush on Ferb’s part (even though him having a crush isn’t bad in my heart he doesn’t have one), and they’re just sibling or “the two coolest cousins at the function” core.
also. ok. OK. the amount of suffering Candace and Isabella go through in regards to romance in the original run of the show………..Ferb can suffer a bit too. they depict romantic angst really well. (almost too well in Isabella’s case.)
It’s also like!! What if Phineas had a stepsister and Doofenshmirtz had a son. Would they really hint at a romance between a 9-10 smth year old girl and a 16 year old boy?? like I LOVE summer belongs to you but we cannot lie, it has ferbnessa undertones. they’d never EVER have depicted that if the genders were reversed. but it’s weird regardless.

I get so sad when people understimate Perry the Platypus because he doesn't talk. Like dude, he just has a different kind of narrative. Even his deadpan faces are very expressive . And his actions also speak volume
Perry the Platypus expresses emotion like the muppets do. The faces both Perry and someone like Kermit can pull a face that portrays emotion I don’t even have a word for.
With a single GLANCE we can understand a large chunk of characterization between Perry, in a way you can’t do with words…
Speaking through action is so much more effective than by saying the same thing.
It’s very sad that such raw emotion can be pushed away simply because it isn’t expressed verbally..
Trying to come up with a way to speak in a way that gives the same effect as this face is very difficult. This one look says so much, and it is so effective.
I think this image really kind of captures what I’m going for. The muppet “scrunch” is a lot like one of Perry’s expressions
I dare say Perry is even more expressive than Phineas and Ferb themselves because the kids are neurodivergent (Phineas most of the times show positive emotions and rarely any other and Ferb doesn't show facial expressions at all)
Perry is one of the most (if not the most) expressive character in the show imo. It’s so cool to see how the animators show such a variety of emotions through just a beak and some eyes!
Perry holding that carrot looks like he just went through all the stages of grief at once and now just has to go to the Christmas party… like that’s so cool!
One of my favorite things about social media is profile pictures because it can give a lot of insight into a person (besides thier username), however, I can not understand why out of every picture of phineas flynn you chose the one with him wincing while watching his skateboard get torn to shreds in season 2 episode 50 "The Beak" before realizing that could've been him if he actually rode the Edge-of-Insanity, Kiss-your-butt-goodbye, Gravity's-a-stone-cold-sucker Nightmare Rail Skate Track Obstacle Course of Doom. Just... why that frame specifically???????????

ok but can we talk about how in the original poster, everyone (except Kevin) is looking at the camera? it’s not inherently framed as romantic, we only interpret the poster as romantic in hindsight because Mitchie and Shane have a romance in the film.
but in the pnf redraw, Ferb and Vanessa are looking at each other. and it’s clear they were going for a romantic vibe here which. gross. GROSS GROSS GROSS.
and to make matters worse!!! Candace!!! Candace is LOOKING AT THEM AS IF SHE GREATLY SUPPORTS THIS ROMANCE BETWEEN HER 9 YR OLD BROTHER AND THE COOL OLDER TEENAGE GIRL SHES FRIENDS WITH. LIKE. HUH.
they’ve taken a poster of characters looking at the camera and inviting the audience in and turned it into just. ferbnessa city. and I hate it.
And Ferb being on top of a speaker to look taller than Vanessa is particularly insidious. The average Instagram user will see this while scrolling, maybe like, and move on within a few seconds. They might not register the speaker or his legs, especially since they’re partially hidden behind the Camp Rock logo and a flash of light, respectively. this is meant to evoke act your age but this isn’t act your age. that’s a whole 9 year old.
also. not saying they copied me but. I redrew a Disney channel poster and put phineas on a crate to make him seem taller and called it out in my Instagram caption last year….except when I did it it was purely for aesthetics and a visual gag and it’s not weird bc he was standing with Isabella who’s canonically the same age as him and often depicted as taller…anyway….. did I cause this😵💫
