My redesign for Vanessa
I wanted to give xem something more to her canon design because I find it so underwhelming. Xe dyes her hair often and sometimes puts it up. She's essentially agender but I think at the time she would call xemself genderqueer. Obviously Heinz was supportive when xe asked to use xe/xem pronouns, he was a little confused but it didn't take much explaining for him to understand gender just isn't her thing. Xir presentation is neutral and feminine and doesn't mind feminine terms for her.
Coming out as bisexual was extremely uneventful because yeah it was pretty obvious. Heinz expected she'd be either lesbian or bisexual.

Vanessa Doofenshmirtz's character design is fine and it works for the show
However, I hate it and I have a few problems with it
1. She just doesn't read to me as a goth character. There's no right way to look goth yes but there is culture and fashion and it's weird for an allegedly goth character to not engage with it at all. Putting her in black clothes isn't enough. It needs personality. It feels like the most goth a character can be before scaring off normies. It's like being presented with an allegedly tomboy/GNC girl character and EVERYTHING about her is conveniently feminine and conforming except she's wearing pants. It's really annoying.
2. It really really bothers me that she doesn't look similar to her friends, who are goth. She sticks out so much because her design is so plain. It doesn't make sense to me. And it doesn't even make sense for her character to dress so dull. There's nothing wrong with that but we've seen her bedroom and we see the type of people she wants to associate herself with and I don't understand why her style doesn't match up with those interests.
3. This might be controversial but she doesn't stand out enough for me to believe Ferb has a crush on her. She's pretty and confident but that's so vauge and unpersonal. Give us a reason why she specifically catches his attention. We understand why Dipper has a crush on Wendy and why he thinks she's cool. Maybe Ferb admires her bold creative self expression. Maybe he likes that she's into punk rock just like him. Maybe he likes that she argues back when other teens unfairly make fun of her Dad.
4. She's Doofenshmirtz's daughter. She's supposed to be the child he raised to have a better childhood than him. So make her design read that way. She could non-conforming to contrast how traditional Doof's family ways. She could have more autonomy over her self expression that wasn't permitted for Doof. She has a strong sense of self and she's confident in who she is. It's the result of Doofenshmirtz rebelling against the conservative aditude his family raised him into.
