While you guys were watching that dogshit finale for Stranger Things I was watching the Nancy Wheeler show and it was amazing.
Unironically the best written character in the entire show with the most complete, full circle arc, consistent character development, driving the story forward every. single. season. She was never a bystander, never along for the ride, never lost momentum. She is driven and passionate and The Eldest Daughter. She was the FIRST to willingly enter the upside down in pursuit of the creature that took her best friend from her. She was brutally punished for being a young woman trying to find herself and never stopped feeling the weight of that one night she decided to let loose and be a teenager, blaming herself for years that it inadvertently lead to the death of her best friend. She was punished AGAIN for trying so hard to keep her family safe, her parents being attacked in their home and her sister taken by that same monster.
Nancy sacrificed so much for her family and friends, picked up a gun in season one and didn't put them down the rest of the show. She killed the monsters. She drove the story. She saved her baby sister in the end where she couldn't save Barb.
Nancy Walk Em Down Wheeler. I love you so much.
And to Natalia Dyer, Nancy wouldn't be the character she is without her outstanding acting and performance. We know she advocated hard for Nancy to get the ending she deserved and that felt right (or as close to as possible) stood up for her and helped make her the unforgettable final girl that she is.
With everything else that went horribly wrong, I am so, so happy that Nancy finally got to leave Hawkins and didn't get trapped behind that white picket fence.
I'm an advocate for fifteen year olds who create conspiracies around decoding the hidden clues in their tv shows it builds character to be proven so wrong on such flimsy grounds
Jane giving back the bracelet and saying "I'm not Sara" was SO good. Hopper begging her to trust that the life she's led so far does not have to dictate where she goes from here and that she can live a beautiful life that transcends the patterns and limits she's been trapped in is SO good. And then they made her choose not to see any way out or identity beyond how she's been treated and defined by others anyway. Duffers really said "the people who see a better life for you beyond your past/present circumstances are naively optimistic the only choice is to kill yourself". It's such a slap in the face especially after how well they handled max's suicidal ideation. Why couldn't they have let HER talk to El and Kali about this (THEY HAD TRIO SCENES TOGETHER) as a fellow teenage girl who's suffered trauma and abuse and unwarranted guilt. I literally work with suicidal children with deep self-worth issues and trauma histories for a living and this was so fucking cruel and devastating and irresponsible of them.

For everything we do here, please be sure to be careful with what you edit, and restart your computer to lock things in.
If you don't have access to the Group editor, (likely to happen if you're on base windows) you can do this as well by opening your Registry Editor app, then inputting this after your 'computer' or whatever the initial segment is. (Mine is computer. If I just try and paste the below string it gets SO mad at me)
Navigating to your "turnoffwindowscopilot", hit modify, and set the value data to 1.
If done correctly, it'll look like this.
While we're at it, you can also get rid of the integrated search, (or that thing where it searches the web when you search anything, whether or not you want it to) and such through regedit as well.
Navigate to your "DisableSearchBoxSuggestions" bit, if you don't see it, you can make it by right clicking and creating a new registry D-Word key of that exact name. Edit the key, set it to 1. It'll look like this if you do it right!
To get rid of Windows Spotlight, (The thing where it pulls up ten billion pages on windows start page, shoving ads in your face and cluttering everything) we go to
And set "Enabled State" To 0. If you do it right, it'll look like this!
Disabling edge on startup will also help a fair deal with processing speed and the like. This you can do in all sorts of ways, the easiest being turning it off entirely on startup through settings in the like.
If you want to kill it *entirely*, though? :)
In regedit, run along to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft
Navigate to your MicrosoftEdge key subcategory. If you don't see it, you can make one! Note, this is a KEY, not a d-word. *inside* that subcategory, we want to either make or find the D-Word key of PreventLaunchEdge and set that to 1 in the same way as all the others.
It'll look like this.
Aaaand while we're here, I'd HIGHLY recommend shanking Killer Networking Services. It's just bloatware. (Ostensibly it's supposed to monitor your network bandwidth and even things out, but that really means it's constantly monitoring and pinging things, which eats up the bandwidth you DO get, and also chunks your computer's processing power.) Getting rid of it entirely is borderline impossible, since it's set to redownload on regular updates and intel is very pushy with its updates.
This you can do by opening your Services.msc, which basically shows you all the background stuff that Windows does. Find Anything with Killer in the name, right click it, go to properties, and disable startup. It should look like this, if done successfully. It will probably reenable itself in time/in later updates for windows, but it's a quick fix. I'd also check your TaskScheduler app to make sure that nothing's scheduled to open up there, either.
If you CAN completely kill Killer services through uninstalling and the like, I would warn that at very least for my computer, the only ethernet/lan support applications that are available ARE Killer's. When you download updates, you really do have to do it manually and ONLY download the ethernet services, or just be cool with not having Lan functionality.
One last thing, not a shit application but is a shit service. If your computer's constantly overheating or just warm, you likely have Turboboost enabled. (Default setting that you can't change) If you want to be able to turn it off and drop your temps by like 40 degrees, in Regedit go to
(Note- This isn't the string copy paste from the reddit thread, this is mine that does the same thing. If my string doesn't work for you, check the reddit thread string. If that doesn't work either, you can follow the path and find it pretty easily. Probably has like, one letter of difference somewhere. The bits all start the same, though, so it's easy to find.)
and go to "attributes". Set the value from 1 to 2, and now in your advanced Power Plan settings in control panel, you'll be able to *see* turbo boost and turn it off.
It'll look like this, and in power options, a successful disabling of boost should look like this.
Turning off quick startup's also a good call, since that basically stops your restarts from actually shutting things down properly.

Six months. For six months Steve has been listening to this radio show and not ever one time did he expect to hear the host, Eddie Munson, growl out the words “Hawkins, Indiana," but here they are. The name said.
Steve stops the car dead in the middle of the road, can’t hear anything aside from the radio show host listing Hawkins facts in his sonorous voice.
He should have known. Like rationally, he should have considered it a possibility that Hawkins might come up on this late night talk radio show called Hellfire about monsters, cryptids, folklore.
It’s just. He thought. Hawkins hadn’t exactly made national news, and what had was about a toxic gas leak and a government coverup, not exactly this show’s focus.
But enough, apparently. Obviously.
Eddie starts talking about the disappearance of Will Byers, and Steve lays his head on his steering wheel, tries to ignore the way his hands tremble.
For six months Hellfire brought him comfort and companionship as he roams the dark street of Hawkins on what Robin calls his patrols. It’s not like he can sleep, not anymore, so what better to do than make sure everyone is safe? That there’s no signs of the Upside Down? That the gates are still closed?
Hellfire has been his companion through it all and now—now—
Eddie’s talking about the Department of Energy, MK Ultra, a fake body in the quarry.
He could turn it off. Or better yet, go home. But he sits in his car out by Lover’s Lake and he listens to Eddie detail the rumors and speculation. Listens to the callers who share their two cents and conspiracy theories—none close to the truth.
The thing is. He’s become—fond of Eddie, of Hellfire. He doesn’t care about cryptids, isn’t interested in Big Foot, but he was captivated by Eddie. Not just him, though, it’s the whole thing with his producer, Gareth, and his two other best friends who pop in from time to time. They’re funny, nerdy, love that dork game the kids play. And if the low resonance of Eddie’s voice makes him a little melty? Well, that’s between him and 3am.
Steve calls in, sometimes. Has called in. Just, you know, once a week or so. It's not like he knows anything about the monsters, but he asks questions, likes to listen to Eddie talk no matter if he understands.
They finish with a caller and Eddie says, "unfortunately, we'll probably never know what happened."
And Gareth cuts in to say, "Hawkins is only an hour a way. You know. If you find that interesting."
"What are you saying, Gar?" Eddie asks. "That we should go?" He laughs.
"Why not? We could do our own investigation. Maybe we'll find something the authorities don't want us to."
"Hmm, what do you think, listeners? Should we don our adventurer caps and head into the unknown?"
He doesn't remember putting the car into drive, but he knows he's speeding toward the little two-pump gas station on the edge of town and the deserted pay phone there.
The line beeps and beeps when he dials. He tries again and again, until finally there's a click, and Eddie's radio voice booming in his ear.
"Thank you for calling Hellfire," he laughs, manic. "You're--
"You can't go to Hawkins," he interrupts.
"Sweetheart," Eddie croons. "Haven't heard from you in a while. How are you?"
"I'm Fine. Stay out of Hawkins."
"You gotta ease into it a little, baby. Little small talk first."
"Eddie..."
"What do you know about Hawkins?"
"N--nothing. I've heard bad things about it. Cops."
"Cops," Eddie snorts. "I'm not afraid of Hawkins PD. Are you calling because you're worried for my well-being, sweetheart?"
"Yes." Steve doesn't hesitate.
"You're my favorite listener, you know that?"
"I'm being serious."
"It's cute."
"It's a really bad idea to go to Hawkins."
"Do you know what's funny? You didn't know what a chupacabra was, but you know about Hawkins."
"I--" he swallows. "Have specific interests."
Eddie laughs. "What do you know about Hawkins?"
"Nothing," too quick.
"Are you lying to me?"
"I can't say."
"You just keep getting more and more mysterious."
"Please, stay away. It's--there are things, people--you don't want their attention. Just, please. Trust me."
"I'll agree on one condition. Tell me how you know this."
"I can't," he whispers. "That's why you need to trust me."
"What's stopping you?"
He flashes back to an interrogation room, Hopper's stern face, the even sterner ones of the government agents, the four-inch high stack of papers to sign, again and again and again.
"NDAs."
Dead silence on the other line until Eddie asks, "wait, PLURAL?" excitement spikes through the speakers.
That's when Steve hears the distant click down the line, knows it isn't him or Eddie, knows--
The line goes dead.
"Fuck."
He goes straight to the cabin. It's late enough in the morning now that he's unsurprised to see the glowing ember of a cigarette near the porch steps.
"What'd you do, kid?" Hopper asks when Steve gets out of his car.
"Called into a radio show about monsters."
The chief sighs, drops his hands to his sides, muttering. The crunch of gravel way up the long drive has them both turning.
"Guess we're in for a long day." Hopper stomps out his cigarette.

Steve isn't allowed to listen to Hellfire anymore. Is forbidden from calling in. And he gets it, okay, he knows. He said too much on the radio, but he hopes that he didn't get Eddie in trouble, that they don't try to come to Hawkins.
He gets a late start on his patrols one night. Took the kids to the movies, caved within minutes when they begged to go for ice cream after, Robin giving him a fond eye roll when he stops.
It's late, summer sun set for hours already, and he's driving on backroads behind the lab. And it's been--it's been a few weeks, okay, since the last call, long enough that he's stopped thinking Eddie will show, so when he sees the van on the side of the road--when he sees the van he doesn't stop right away.
It's tan and white or maybe grey, old, from the 70's or something; spiky black lettering on the side. It says Hellfire.
Steve slams on the breaks so hard the tires squeal, car skidding. He parks haphazardly on the side of the road, only grabbing a flashlight before hurling himself into the woods.
He figures Eddie and the guys will be easy to find, bumbling through unfamiliar forest, but minutes pass with nothing but his own feet crushing through the underbrush. He's afraid to yell, afraid it will draw the wrong kind of attention, but he does a kind of hoarse whisper, knowing it's not enough.
There's a small rock formation that he skirts past, mind everywhere but on his surroundings. He hears a rustle, he thinks, turns, and in the space of a breath, collides with something distinctly solid, warm, and judging by the pained grunt, human.
"Fuck. Gareth?" A very familiar voice asks.
"Eddie??" He responds. His fingers scrabble for his flashlight, illuminating the leaf strewn forest floor and some nearby tree roots.
A beam of light illuminates his chest and face, forcing his eyes down. "Who are you?"Eddie demands.
Steve finally grabs his flashlight, points it at Eddie's middle. Has a second to take in his long, curly hair, his cut-off t-shirt, pale skin and the swirl of inky black tattoos. "I'm--I--I called into your show. I--I told you not to--"
"Oh," Eddie's breath hitches. "Sweetheart. You said not to come to Hawkins and then you--you--" He blinks, seems to struggle to find words. "I didn't expect you to be so beautiful."
He smiles. "i--your show, I loved it. I miss listening to you. I miss--" He takes a step, closes the distance. Eddie smiles and it grips something in his stomach, doesn't let go.
Over Eddie's shoulder, there's a flash of movement, catches in Steve's periphery. It's an unfurling, an opening, there's a shine of saliva, teeth.
Dustin trusts the guy about as far as he could throw him. Which is to say, a sum of absolute zero.
But Robin said he'd been helping and she's the one who Steve went to (which, by the way, is a complete betrayal of the code that Dustin set up with Steve, however unspoken it was, Dustin was the experiment guy! Dustin would have been just as helpful as Robin! Maybe more!) so Dustin let it be. He's fine with it.
She's been weird lately but he never really knew Robin outside of death-defying situations so maybe she's just always like that. Steve just kept making friends with weird people.
It took a while to hear her out, to hear Steve's name and not break into a million pieces again. But he made it through, didn't even have to hold on to the watch that he took from Steve's room. It's been sounding a bit slow lately and he's pretending it's not because of how often he squeezes it, listening to the ticking and remembering Steve's heartbeat under his hand.
Just.
Gone.
But then Robin gave him a cap, one that Steve apparently used to wear back in baseball or something. She tells him he can't wear it yet but he doesn't even care, doesn't even listen because all he can do is hold it to his chest and remember Steve asking him if he wants to learn baseball, they could practice on weekends and Dustin said no way.
Then she called everyone in, except it wasn't everyone. It was Dustin, Max and Lucas. And some random guy that definitely shouldn't be here if there's a code red.
"I know I know, just, trust me."
"Does this have to do with what you were trying to tell us last time?" Lucas asks, wringing his hands through a yellow sweatshirt.
"Yeah," Robin says, taking a deep breath when the guy, whoever he is, pats her shoulder. "Look I know was...kind of off last time but just hear me out. You all have Steve's mementos?"
Dustin squeezes the cap, and that's when he notices the sweatshirt looks really familiar and Max is holding tightly on to headphones with frayed off wiring.
"Could you guys try...putting them on now? Max, you can just put it around your neck, I guess?"
"Glad we finally have your permission," Max snarks but Dustin can only swallow as he swaps his cap out and tries not to remember the smell of hairspray in his little bathroom, on a Saturday night at 5PM, like there was nothing he would rather have done than helping Dustin.
Dustin secures the cap on and looks back up at Robin, ready to ask a million questions but then -
The death of Steve Harrington appears before them.
"So, you're a ghost now?"
Steve (his ghost! the ghost of Steve!) shrugs. He's wearing the Scoops uniform but he looks...normal. No blood, no wounds, it's like they never left the mall, never went looking underneath it. When Dustin leaped up at him, he felt Steve, felt his arms come around all three of them. Robin and the random guy were just quietly watching, he realised afterwards, but in the moment, he clung on and let himself cry one more time.
"Kind of," Steve says with a squint. "We think there might be some Upside Down shenaniganry at play here."
Dustin blinks at the ghost, his mouth wide. Steve flicks his cap and he pulls it down tightly onto his head, pretending it's not because he's afraid of not seeing Steve anymore. "Shenaniganry? Since when do you know that word? What does that even mean?"
"Ha ha," Steve rolls his eyes and everything in Dustin's chest squeezes because he's here, he's still here, he's still here. "I've been hanging out with Eddie too much, I guess."
"Speaking of which." Dustin inhales deeply. "What the hell were you thinking bringing some outsider in to this?! He doesn't even know anything about our operations, why is he here?! And actually, on that line of questioning, how come Robin knew first?! I get you're like, in love or whatever -"
"Woah, hang on -"
"But I was right there!" Dustin snaps. He pretends he's not crying. "I was right there, waiting for you to come back."
"Dustin," Steve says softly and he breaks into a million pieces.
"I was right here," Dustin sobs and he feels warm arms pull him in and he cries and cries and cries.
Steve rocks them side-to-side and presses a kiss to the cap on Dustin's head with a quiet, "I got you, buddy. We're okay."
They came up with a game plan. Of course they did (once Max and Lucas both also get to cry with Steve but Dustin pretends he doesn't know that and they pretend they don't know about him crying and everyone is fine), but it needed more manpower that they just don't have without El.
So they tried a different plan.
And another one.
Something else.
Maybe this one.
"Come on, come on, come on!" Dustin groans, throwing his pencil onto the table and dropping his head into his arms, shutting himself away from the rest of the world.
"Hey, hey, hey, easy on the merchandise," Eddie says in his no-bullshit voice but Dustin just lifts a hand up into a gesture he normally reserves for only the more dire of situations (Suzie would never forgive him). "Hey, dickwad, remember who's letting you stay here when we don't even have a session tonight."
"Oh I'm sorry," Dustin says in his second-most sarcastic tone. "Next time I feel like figuring out how to bring my dead brother back from the dead, I'll just go to the library instead!"
Eddie shuts up at that. Dustin does too but he just looks away and pretends it's because he won.
There's a big sigh from the throne and suddenly, Eddie is right there next to him with a grim smile. "Okay, you got me. What've you got so far?"
It's only when they're packing up and he and Lucas are waiting for Steve ("What? Hey, I can float, do you have any idea how much gas money I'd be saving right now?") to appear in Eddie's van that Eddie says, with the smarmiest grin, "So, brother, huh?"
And then things start going downhill.
Dustin got that Steve has been helping Lucas out with his basketball or whatever, but there were more important things to be focusing on, but then Eddie was insistent in not changing the campaign session ("I already have to give up enough time for your Casper situation as is," he had muttered towards Dustin, Mike squirming. "I get to have this, no matter what your Undead King is planning.") and Max wouldn't bring Steve's headphones, using her own instead, and Mike was barely aware of anything happening ever!
And then a cheerleader goes missing, Eddie goes missing, everyone thinks he kidnapped her after her asshole boyfriend started asking stupid questions about whatever the hell happened at Eddie's place, they don't even know where Steve is -
"Finally!" Steve is tapping his foot on the ceiling of Family Video, grimacing down at them. Robin is already packing her bag up and grabbing random cassettes for some reason, barely glancing at them. "Come on, Eddie's with Chrissy but I can't explain all this to newbies."
"You - what?" Dustin stares up, dumbfounded (just this once).
The ghost grins down at them, wearing a red sweater that's fraying enough at the hem that Dustin almost mistakes the threads for...something else. His smile is confident and classic-Steve but there's a hint of something manic in it that has Dustin double-blinking. "Code red, gang."

I wish I could be optimistic about the second pjo season, I really do, but every time I see that hopeful sentiment of "maybe the show runners will listen to the complaints about season 1 and fix it going forward!!" it reminds me of another notable time that RR's work received a not insignificant amount of criticism (the Blood of Olympus), and in response he wrote a passive aggressive one-shot wherein the seven literally just sit and verbally justify everything that happened asdlfksdjfsdf

One of my fave Everlark scenes isn’t kissing or anything romantic. It’s when Peeta admits he painted Rue for the Gamemakers, and everyone is shocked so Katniss is like, “well I hung Seneca Crane whoopsie.” And then they just giggle because they are both so alike in some ways. Maybe Peeta is more artistic and intentional while and Katniss is more confrontational and reactionary, but they are in step with each other in a way that is truly impressive.
