the lack of respect for the mechanics and engineers bothers me. they only get respect when people think of triple headers and the long schedule. they deserve your respect when the cars are not working well. no one is more frustrated at the issues in these cars than the people who have poured hours of their lives into building them. yes, they are there to win but they are also there to do jobs. and everyone deserves some respect at work. you think WE are gutted when george's car breaks down or checo's breaks are on fire again? not nearly as much as the mechanic who gave the all clear on the pu or who adjusted those breaks before the car was sent out. the pitcrew that lost .2 of a second, on a 2.1 second pitstop, are already gutted without hit pieces about how they have to move fasted when they are already doing it HALF as quickly as they did 15 years ago. we talk about how we don't want ai and machines taking over our sport, well maybe there should be more thought and respect for the aspects of it which are beautifully flawed and frustrating and human.
so i think after we come back from the break, the papaya boys will just swap race wins until the end of the season

favorite part of this moment is Lando staying on his knees with his eyes following Oscar the whole way so intently that he almost doesnβt realize Oscar is reaching out to him - they trust each other so much but never EVER demand or expect anything in these moments and I think thatβs such a specific landoscar pairing distinction. that even tho they continue to prove their exceptional loyalty and appreciation for each other - and ability to see beyond the immediate emotions - but they will always leave each other room to react how they want. because it means so much that the one who is winning doesnβt start the reconciliation with the one who is suffering, so however that person chooses to react is on their terms. itβs only if they want to - and they both always want to. and !! itβs nothing to do with the rest of the team. they lock eyes and do their weird nonverbal communication and these handshakes and smiles are for each other alone. if it were for the public or the media or even Andrea, it would be bigger and louder displays. but itβs not for them. (and itβs why Lando laughed at the idea of them needing a big formal βsit downβ about AD25 - theyβd even said how they discussed what one of them would be feeling compared to the other, and early into the season. they didnβt have anything unsaid because they donβt ever leave the other hanging or doubting)

How so many always seem to forget that Lando and Oscar always fight viciously on track, sometimes getting a bit snippy on the radio about it, but once the race is done and the helmets are off and maybe they've had a bit of water and a trip through the aircon, they're back to whatever that smiley bonded kitten behavior they have going on is.
As far as racing goes between Lando and Oscar, what happened in this race was literally nothing that even moved the needle for me, but some of y'all really like to search for those drama crumbs instead of appreciating the sport of it all.
Oscar's outcome was unfortunate, and I'm wrecked about it and the awful luck he's had, but very little of it can be attributed to the decisions made by the team during the race, and absolutely none of it was the result of any kind of deliberate action or inaction. It's actually pretty rare that I agree entirely with McLaren's strategy calls, but they actually did well with that today, reacting to the pit cycles well and handling the order fairly. It wasn't perfect (it never is), but it wasn't the thing at fault today for once.
Sometimes shit just happens.
