Rebecca Mason Adams‘s moody acrylic paintings have an edge of realism that makes them look incredibly like black and white photographs. This is because the Providence, RI based artist, currently moving to Los Angeles, first studied photography and since then, has expressed an interested in black and white portraiture, “referencing stylized and graphic photography and film.” She transitioned into painting after school, utilizing her skills in photography and lighting to create her subjects, mostly women.

“Nicole Banowetz is a Denver sculptor who makes sewn inflatable sculptures and delicate assembled forms.  Her artwork addresses vulnerability and struggle.  She empowers objects through embellishment, building up protective layers, which with time become destructive.  Her forms move freely between growth and decay blurring the distinction between decoration and disease.”

From her website alone, you can tell that the dedication and thought that is put into her work literally comes alive in the space. The Colorado State University graduate has been featured in places all over the word, such as Ireland, Italy, Germany, and most recently, in Russia, where she did a residency in the NCCA Art Residence in Kronstadt.

Banowetz’s giant inflatable work will be featured in BRILLIANT 2016, as a part of the science-fiction inspired show.  We cannot wait to see what Nicole has in store, and we hope you will join us to see as well.

Artist Sylvia Maier honors the Black mothers who lost their sons to police violence.

“These mothers, they are the living victims. Living with the loss of their children,” says Sylvia. Maier is referring to the Circle of Mothers, a national support group for mothers whose children were murdered by police officers.
