During strep, I decided to write a holiday themed novellette that was supposed to be that “It’s spooky season all year/I am so over Christmas by day ten of December.” I started it and finished it within a week. I am posting a few episodes a week at this rate to get it up by the 25th.

Halloween Party in December:

This story follows Roslyn who works at a bakery and a catering company during the holiday season. She is a bit burnt out and overworked. She jumps at the idea to go to a Halloween party at a local bar. She meets a half-shifted dragon that she thinks is wearing an amazing costume. After a steamy night of riding his horns, she escapes without leaving her number. Unbeknownst to her, she’s his mate and he has to find her. The next few days, they continuously miss each other by minutes. Will Syn find his mate before Christmas?

On top of that, I figure I could write spin offs with some of the characters introduced: Lee, Gryndor, Chels, Nora, and Vin. Chels activates Gryndor’s mating response except due to his past trauma, he has no memory. His dragon keeps taking over and stalking poor Chels. I was thinking of writing this one a few months after when Rosyln is getting closer to Syn and they are trying to encourage her to “get back out.”

My other writing goals this year is to finish: Saved by the Pirate, The Alpha’s Demon, Don’t Go To Sleep, and Hitting the Boss. Edit them and put them on KU. Although I am struggling with imposter syndrome, finding organic reads, etc.

Side note: I have written an entire book with no main plot. I had the b and c plot because this was book 2 in a 4-5 book series. I have an idea what I actually wanted for the main plot. It would be Nice Guy (tm) gets rejected and joins up with Bad Woman to cause FMC to have The Struggles(tm) while dealing with plot b and c. I just didn’t know what to do to create all that stuff between the b/c plot.

Back to the Nanowrimo 2022: I really don’t know where to go from here. I really wanted to try to query this to someone that was specifically looking for a high heat monster romance under 75k.

Here’s the current WIP lineup with some ideas: Saved by the Pirate: I did write a bit on this one this week. They still haven’t boned. They are currently fighting over their feelings.

Hitting the Boss: Haven’t touched this one. I roughly edited it and then posted a new episode on Kindle vella for Monday.

Don’t go to Sleep: I need to edit and upload a new episode for tomorrow or Thursday. This one also was roughly edited last week while I had flu. Editing this one is harder because I am having to shift a lot of things. This is #nanowrimo 2010? story.

Hunting his Prey: This one I last wrote on a week ago. I think she may be filing a police report to another wolf as her mate finds her again. So ya know rage ensues.

Monster at the Haunt: I haven’t written more on this but I am not forgetting this story in case I get accepted into the monster anthology that I applied for. Fingers crossed!

Untitled Holiday Short story: Okay, I just thought of this a few days ago. I don’t have any holiday themed stories on vella. Since I was already thinking of doing a set of shorts to complete between bigger stories to make a bigger book in the end, this could go there. Idea is that a woman (supernatural or human, I am not sure) goes to a silly Halloween party in December party. She hooks up with a supernatural or monster of some kind. What monster? I don’t know! But falling in love ensues. Is this an awful idea?? I could probably do something with this in a week to start posting December 1st.

Monster under my bed: he just ate the guy. she told him to pay rent. And now I have to figure out what happens next.

The Alpha’s Demon: They also haven’t boned. I need to update inkitt/wattpad. I have gotten two reviews this week. I haven’t forgotten it. I just haven’t had a moment. And I am kind of lost. Like when will they bone? The sequel will be a why choose with Ruby. That will be a mmmff.

Today, I promo-ed three different vellas. Same thread. No by lines. Just their picture and their link (or whatever popped up). I have a Sci fi alien romance, fantasy romance (still not sure if we will have a steamy scene since I have to rewrite the last 15 k but when I wrote it I did ftb) and a steamy contemporary romance labeled erotica.

Out of the three vellas (maybe two other promos but I didn’t go crazy today), The fantasy with 6 episodes has the most reads. Those reads are mostly coming from that promo thread. Next is the Sci fi alien romance which is actually getting more overall reads than I thought. Last is the contemporary romance.

Numbers are 29 read/4 unlocks: DGTS: 19, SBTP: 9, HTB: 1

Now here are some variables that could affect it: My fantasy novel is in third person with over ten years of world building and my writing style was vastly different. It’s also in 3rd POV. I did not tag it as steamy. The contemporary billionaire romance may be an over saturated genre for vella and erotica could be killing it. Or maybe my writing sucks? Then again are these actually read? Or scrolled through? What I thought was that less people are interested in sci fi alien romance. But HTB is not going out like gangbusters like I thought it could. I am also just dipping into writing steamy scenes. So again, I could suck. Edited to add, maybe the circle icon for DGTS is better? Maybe the title is more unique (it’s not. I saw a horror with the same title in vella recently)? There are a lot of variables and I am not sure what is what.
