Michael had always been protective of you. Not in an overbearing way. Not in a way that made you feel trapped. Michael respected you too much for that. But when it came to your comfort, your safety, and your happiness, there wasn’t much he wouldn’t do.
You had been married for years, and one thing everyone learned quickly was that Michael could be incredibly sweet right up until someone made you uncomfortable. Then all bets were off.
The problem started innocently enough. Michael was in the middle of preparing for a new project, which meant long rehearsals, meetings, and endless hours in the studio. You would often stop by to bring him food, spend time with him during breaks, or simply keep him company.
Most of the people Michael worked with were wonderful. But one man wasn’t.
At first, you tried to ignore it. The comments weren’t inappropriate enough to make a scene, but they were enough to make your skin crawl. Every time you came by, he somehow found an excuse to stand too close. He always had something to say. He lingered in conversations far longer than necessary.
You tried to brush it off the first few times but it kept happening. Especially when he kept saying stuff like, “Your husband is lucky,” he’d say with a grin. Or “If I met you first, things might’ve turned out differently.” Always followed by a laugh. He always said it in a way that gave him plausible deniability and you hated it.But you also hated causing problems. So you kept it to yourself. But your husband was Michael Jackson and Michael noticed everything.
It happened one afternoon while you were visiting rehearsals. You had just finished talking to a few dancers when Michael looked over and immediately noticed your expression. Your smile looked forced and your shoulders were tense. And it happened when a certain crew member walked over, Michael watched you subtly move farther away.
His stomach dropped because you never did that. Not with people you felt comfortable around.
The rest of rehearsal felt like a blur. Michael tried focusing on work yet he failed miserably. The second rehearsals ended, he found you sitting alone with a bottle of water.
“Baby?” You looked up immediately. “Yes Sweetie?”Michael sat right beside you with his voice too gentle. The kind of voice he used when he already knew something was wrong.
“Did something happen today?” Your heart sank. “No, why do you ask?.” The look Michael gave you made it clear he didn’t believe that for a second. “Y/n please don’t lie to me.” You sighed. Because there really was no point lying to him. Not when he’d spent years learning every little thing about you.
“It’s not a big deal.” Michael’s jaw tightened immediately he hated that phrase.
“It’s a big deal if it’s bothering you.” You stared at your water bottle then finally told him.
You explained the comments and his lingering. The way the man constantly inserted himself into conversations. The way he made you feel uncomfortable every time you visited. By the time you finished speaking, Michael was silent. You had been married long enough to know that silence. It was the same silence he got when someone insulted his family, hurt one of his children, or crossed a line and someone did just cross a line.
“Michael?” His eyes finally met yours and you immediately softened. Because underneath the anger was hurt. The idea that someone had made you uncomfortable while he was right there devastated him. “Why didn’t you tell me?” His voice cracked slightly and you reached for his hand.
“I didn’t want to make a big thing out of it.” “But it is a big thing.” The response came almost instantly. Michael squeezed your hand tightly. “You shouldn’t have to feel uncomfortable around anyone.” You smiled sadly. “I know.” “Baby, I mean it.” The look in his eyes made your chest ache.
“I don’t care if it’s someone I work with. I don’t care who they are.” His thumb brushed across your knuckles. “If someone makes you uncomfortable, I want to know.” You nodded. “Okay.” Michael leaned forward and kissed your forehead. The gesture was sweet but the look in his eyes weren’t. Because Michael was already planning a very serious conversation.
The next morning, that conversation happened. The man barely had time to sit down before Michael shut the door behind him. The crew member smiled. “What’s up?” Michael didn’t smile back. The man’s expression immediately changed. The meeting wasn’t loud as Michael rarely needed to raise his voice. In fact, that made it worse. Because Michael calmly explained exactly what behavior he had noticed.
Exactly what had been reported to him. And exactly why it would never happen again. By the end of the conversation, the man looked like he wanted the floor to swallow him whole.
Later that evening, Michael returned home.
You were curled up on the couch reading after putting the kids to bed when Michael walked in. Immediately, he crossed the room and sat beside you. “What happened?” You asked putting your book. Michael wrapped an arm around your shoulders. “I handled it.”You looked up. “Michael.” “What?” “You didn’t kill him, right?” Michael laughed the first one all day.
“No.” “Good.” “I wanted to.” You smacked his arm as Michael laughed. Then his expression softened as he pulled you closer until your head rested against his shoulder.
For a moment, neither of you spoke. Then quietly, he said, “I hate that you were dealing with that alone.” Your heart melted. You tilted your head up to look at him. “I’m okay.” “I know.” Michael kissed your forehead again.
“But next time…” He paused. “Please tell me.” You smiled and nodded. “I will.” Satisfied, Michael pulled you even closer. Like he was reassuring himself that you were safe.
And nobody was bothering you anymore. You didn’t mind. Because if there was one thing better than being loved by Michael Jackson it was being protected by him too.
