The crimson haze of Pentagram City hung,
A pallid moon, a mournful song unsung.
Carmilla Carmine, with her steely gaze,
Surveyed her empire, through a smoke-filled haze.
She smoothed a wrinkle from her shimmering gown,
And felt a sickly presence, settling slowly down.
Zestial Morde, in ancient finery dressed,
Appeared beside her, an unwelcome guest.
"Carmilla, fair one," he began to speak,
His voice, like gravel, had a chilling squeak.
"Mine eyes doth fall upon thy comely grace,
A light amidst this benighted place."
Carmilla sighed, a plume of violet smoke,
"Zestial. Must you always play the joke?
Or think that flowery words and antique guise
Will sway my judgment, veil before my eyes?"
He bowed his head, a flourish and a sweep,
"Nay, fair Carmilla, secrets I doth keep,
And knowledge have, of power's cruel art,
A skill, perchance, that sets us both apart."
"Apart?" she questioned, with a raised eyebrow high,
"We tread the same ground, beneath the same damned sky.
We both hold territory, we both command,
What makes you think you offer helping hand?"
Zestial chuckled, a dry and rattling sound,
"Forsooth, Carmilla, look around, around!
This city teems with treachery and guile,
And enemies who mask beneath a smile."
"I see them clearly. And I deal with them."
She stated plainly, like a solemn hymn.
"I need no counsel, ancient as you are,
To guide my hand, or navigate so far."
"Ah, but dear lady, pardon this old plea,
Thou art of strong stature, of great degree.
But even titans may grow weary so,
A partner needed, lest their strength doth go."
He shifted closer, in the smoky gloom,
"Think of the power, blooming in this room.
Combined dominion, a unyielding sway,
What demon in Hell would dare to disobey?"
Carmilla pondered, lips a crimson line,
The proposition, subtle and malign.
He saw the flicker, in her knowing eyes,
A calculation, hidden 'neath disguise.
"Your offer," she began, with measured tone,
"Has certain merits, that are widely known.
Your ancient wisdom, your strategic mind,
A valuable asset, hard indeed to find."
Zestial beamed, a flash of sharpened teeth,
"Then say the word, and draw our powers beneath
A single banner, forged in fire and strife,
And claim dominion over damned afterlife!"
"Not quite," she countered, cool as winter ice,
"Alliance, Zestial, comes at a price.
My daughters matter, first and foremost then,
Their safety is a matter quite akin
To my own breath, and my very life,
I’ll not trade that for power in this strife."
"Fear not, fair Duchess! To protect them I avow,
No harm shall befall them, I pledge this vow!
Mine honor as a noble, should that count,
Their wellbeing is of utmost mount."
Carmilla studied him, her gaze so deep,
She saw the hunger, buried in his sleep.
He craved the power, yes, that much was true,
But something else, a yearning, burning through.
A lonely echo, in his ancient heart,
A wish for connection, playing a subtle part.
And perhaps, just perhaps, within his soul,
A glimpse of respect, beyond her control.
"Very well, Zestial," she finally said,
A silent promise hanging overhead.
"An alliance, then, we shall agree,
But understand, the terms lie with me."
Zestial bowed deeply, with a courtly grace,
"As thou commandeth, ruler of this place.
Our futures mingle, intertwined as one,
And victory, in the days that are to come."
The shadows danced, the smoke began to clear,
As two powerful figures, shed away all fear.
Bound by ambition, and a silent need,
Planted the seeds of a dangerous creed.
The Crimson light of Pentagram still shone,
And two powerful souls were no longer alone.
