what if sierra was a fujoshi and shipped dunhar
I think one of the underdiscussed aspects of the Charlie and Frank dynamic is that in addition to Everything Else They Got Going On, they are also boss and employee. not only that, it seems Frank is the only one in the gang who truly understands that even though Frank finances, Charlie is the one who actually keeps the bar running smoothly. In Dines Out he says Mac and Dennis don't appreciate all his work, implying /he/ does, and it's true. But because of this Frank believes Charlie needs to be kept down, at the bottom, that's where the foundation goes. everyone knows that Frank lives in squalor because he chooses to but I think some people forget the other side, that for Charlie it's not a choice. only reason he let Frank move in w him in the first place was because Frank offered to pay rent. Everyone in the gang relies on Frank financially but not so much as Charlie who is completely dependent on him, and whose livelihood is entirely reliant on Frank's whims. Few examples is when Frank moves out to live with Bonnie, he takes all of Charlie's shit with him. In Great Recession he kicks him out, making Charlie homeless. And I think that's why we get stuff about Charlie keeping Frank reliant on him as well, through changing his prescription glasses and even insisting on chewing his food. Something I think about too is in Back in Business Frank claims he's going to take Charlie under his wing and mentor him. Even though Charlie proves to be useful once he starts asking questions and wanting to actually learn, Frank fires him.
I don't actually know where I'm going with all of this. I guess I just find this very interesting to chew on when discussing those two and I don't see it considered often, when to me it's a fundamental aspect of how their relationship became Like That.
thinking about the recent discussion about charfrank... their dynamic in season 17 really feels like a reflection of amatonormativity & how aces and aros often have to deal with people who've been a core part of their life for ages entering a romantic relationship & immediately shoving them to the side bc that's what's you're "supposed" to do. and you're just supposed to accept that this going to happen eventually. but in their case it's like they were basically platonic life partners with no reason for charlie to believe that this would ever change and then it just. did. which is all to say that this dynamic just strengthens my interpretation of charlie as acespec.

By valid interpretation, there was a brief point in time where Charlie’s legal relationship to Dennis and Dee was literally “father-in-law” given he had a domestic partnership with Frank at a point where Frank was still legally the twins father (and tbh we don’t even know if he no longer is legally their father, all we know for sure is he wrote them out of his will)
“Charlie, go grab us a couple’a beers from the back room.”
hot take but we should be blorbo-fying frank reynolds more

real and true #TOME
do I ship charfrank? not really. do I have eyes and acknowledge what is happening on screen? yeah. they have canonically had sex together (orgies and threesomes) at least three times I can remember off the top of my head rn. they've been literally sharing a bed for two decades. is it romantic? not really. is it sexual? sometimes. is it platonic? maybe but neither of them knows what platonic even means. it's definitely extremely codependent. whatever freak4freak shit they've got going on definitely works for them.
Saw this on Instagram and thought of the gang
