on a similar note, working an office job has me thinking a lot abt the weird dissonance between the projected disembodied identity of the Professional and the reality of a person as like. an oozing sweating animal. like you think abt it enough and the whole building starts to feel like a lot of dogs wearing collared shirts

when people say stuff like "you need to have hobbies that aren't media" i agree with the letter of it, because i think that you have to have at least one or two tactile hobbies to stop you from descending into madness. but its never actually about that it always comes with the smug, condescending implication that media is a kind of consolation prize for people who aren't able to have Real interests. and its just like. well i actually do think the collective body of books, film, plays, television, comics, and video games produced by the human race is vast and meaningful enough that a life spent mostly picking through it and reflecting on it could be perfectly fulfilling

maybe you did do something wrong. maybe you hurt someone. maybe you have said awful things. maybe you were just as bad as them. maybe. but what matters is that you move on. you have to try. you have to wake up and be kinder. you have to learn and listen and grow. maybe you did do something wrong but that doesn't mean you have to keep doing that. as long as you are alive, you can change
